These excuses ignore the fact that the risk of a collision increases when you drive under the influence of drink or drugs.
ALT If you are caught drink or drug driving then the penalties include:
• a minimum 12 month driving ban
• a criminal record
• an unlimited fine
• up to 6 months in prison
• licence endorsed for 11 years
• increased insurance premiums
ALT Our officers are trained to carry out Field Impairment Tests at the roadside
Even drivers that pass the roadside checks can be arrested if the police suspect that your driving is impaired by drugs

So far In 2023 the Metropolitan Police Service have arrested 6,632 people on suspicion of drink/drug driving offences
