One to replace the previous pinned post - there’s a whole load of weather on this page so feel free to stick around if you want to with a sprinkle of aurora whenever that peps up. I hope this picture of me and a goose from this morning is suitable for now!
The Met Office has confirmed new UK May records with a maximum May temperature record of 35.1°C at Kew Gardens on the 26th of May and a new highest minimum May record of 21.4°C at Camborne on the 27th May. Welsh and Northern Ireland records were also confirmed.
One year ago tonight - Manston nearby saw 48.2 mm of rain in 2 hours and was the heaviest June rainfall there in 18 years. It was the most active thunderstorm I've seen.

This NW/SE split is beginning to emerge in modelling, and will begin next week. An appearance of a broad trough or low to the west could help bring hotter air up to the UK by next weekend - interesting times if you are a fan of warm weather.
Looking at my own personal records for Herne Bay since 2020, 2026 so far is already shaping up to be a rather thundery year if it continues on its same trajectory. It'll be interesting to see where it ends up - the 5 year average to the 11th of June is around 4 days.
ALT A cumulative step-line chart showing the number of thunder days recorded at a personal weather station in Herne Bay, Kent, for each year from 2020 to 2026. Each coloured line rises in steps as thunder days accumulate through the calendar year. A dashed black line shows the 5-year average for 2021–2025. The 2026 line (dark red) ends on 11 June with 7 days, well above the 5-year average of 3.8 days to the same date. 2023 recorded the highest annual total of 19 days, followed by 2022 with 16. The x-axis spans January to December; the y-axis shows cumulative thunder days from 0 to approximately 20.
11 mm of rain in an hour at Manston with a drop of 5.1ºC from 14.3ºC at 15 BST to 9.2ºC at 16 BST, probably a good fall of hail there alongside the heavy rain too.
A convergence zone has been established through North Kent, with new thunderstorms firing off in a line and may continue to do so over the next hour or so, although it does seem like it's gradually shifting south. The heaviest cells may mean some areas could see an inch of rain.
