The EU is quietly advancing a law that would force WhatsApp, Telegram, and other platforms to scan every private message, photo, and video, even if end-to-end encrypted.
They call it “Chat Control.” In reality, it’s the foundational act for a full European surveillance regime.
19 member states already support it. If Germany joins, it becomes law by October.
This violates Articles 7 and 8 of the EU Charter: your rights to privacy and data protection. It treats every citizen as a suspect.
They call it child protection, wich makes me sick for many reason. The first and most obvious one is that the use the strongest emotional lever, and the one thing that might marginally benefit from this to justify the foundational elements of dystopian control.
Makes me sicker yet, cause the world it would create, is not one where I’d feel like my kids would be, in fact, safe. Safe to express themselves, to grow indipendent thinking, to aspire to be something more than cogs in a machine, a preordained, heavily guardariled future as their only option.
Safe to opt out. Safe to dissent. It’s exactly for your kids, that this is the most important battle. It’s bigger than this, much much bigger than this, but this is their trojan horse, CBDC’s are next.
What they’re building is a mass scanning infrastructure that breaks encryption, violates trust, and treats private communication as inherently suspicious.
Under the proposal, platforms would be legally required to scan everything before it’s even encrypted.
This includes:
– Private messages
– Photos
– Voice notes
– Videos
There is no opt-out. No warrant. No consent.
This violates Article 7 of the EU Charter:
“Everyone has the right to respect for their private and family life, home and communications.”
And Article 8:
“Everyone has the right to the protection of personal data.”
These are not negotiable. They are foundational.
Encryption is not a loophole. It’s the backbone of digital safety, used by journalists, doctors, political dissidents, and ordinary people every day. This law would break that backbone. For everyone.
Supporters say, “If you’ve done nothing wrong, you have nothing to hide.” History answers for you: Authoritarianism begins with normalization. Surveillance justified by fear always metastasizes.
Germany is the swing vote. If Berlin joins, the law will likely pass under Qualified Majority Voting.
Tell
@MarcoBuschmann and the
@BMI_Bund:
Reject Chat Control. Please.
Protect encryption.
Protect dignity. Absolutely sustain freedom of expression, feeedom of communication.
Also pressure the
@EPPGroup,
@RenewEurope, and
@GreensEFA blocs in the European Parliament.
Silence is complicity. “Undecided” means functionally in favor unless they speak out now. Fucking make noise. Stop scrolling and act, for once. Write, yell, educate. Better yet, log off go in the streets and protest.
If this passes, there will be no going back. A terrible precedent will be set: that private communication is conditional. That is not safety. That is not Europe. That is not democracy.
Chat Control is a dystopian overreach. Kill it before it becomes law.
