Gladys was a pioneer in her field of math which helped create the Global Positioning System (GPS). She started her journey at Virginia State College a prominent HBCU. Gladys worked for 42 years at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Virginia.

For her great work she was inducted into the Space and Missile Pioneers Hall of Fame in 2018. Gladys passed away on January 17th 2026 at the age of 95. #Monarch Made #BlackHistoryMonth

Our next Black History Month Spotlight is Jesse Jackson. Jesse was an American Civil Rights Activist, Politician, and a Baptist Minister. During the Civil Rights Movement he was a Protege under Dr. Martin Luther King and James Bevel.

Jesse launched multiple presidential campaigns where he finished 3rd and 2nd in the Democratic Primary’s. He also spent time as a Shadow Senator for the District of Columbia under the Bush and Clinton Administration.

He was widely known as one of the most Influential African-American activists during his era. Jesse has unfortunately passed away on February 17th 2026. He was 85 years old. #BlackHistoryMonth2026 #MonarchMade

This week we have 2 men to highlight during our Black History Month Spotlight. The first is Leon Clark. Leon is a Methodist Alumni who was an Honorable Mention All American in 96’. Prior to Leon’s arrival to campus he served in the Marines.

Ozzie played college football at the University of Alabama. After graduation he played Tight End for the Cleveland Browns for 12 years. He is known for his for his time as the first Black General Manager in the NFL working for the Baltimore Ravens, helping win two Super Bowls.
