Hockney’s biggest influence on me was surely his Secret Knowledge: Rediscovering the Lost Techniques of the Old Masters. Once you know the signature of these tools, their introduction and spread is easily observed in any museum of historic European painting. RIP to a maestro.

Fantastic thread on the academic study of “cults” in the post-1970s era.
Just started reading one of the classic primers to cults in America. It's somewhat dated but sursprisingly sober in how it approaches the difficulties of the subject. The introductory chapter makes a couple of interesting points which are forgotten in much of modern discourue.

If you know about but have never visited Theosophy Hall in DTLA, this is an excellent opportunity.
One of our favorite spiritual time capsules, Theosophy Hall at 33rd & Grand, now has an in-house theatrical troupe. The debut production is "Antigone" (June 26-28) instagram.com/theosophyhallt… zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/an…

Everyone knows about George Van Tassel’s Integratron. Almost nobody knows about Walter Bartoo and his giant wooden pyramid that he built in North Carolina- he believed he was continuing the same extraterrestrial technology. According to those involved, the pyramid wasn’t just an experiment - it was designed to communicate with ETs through resonance, energy fields, and principles they claimed originated from non-human intelligence. A forgotten story involving UFO contactees, strange technology, and one of the most bizarre chapters in the history of the UFO movement. Have you ever heard of it?

Only that which is constant perceives change; only the permanent can perceive impermanence. However dimly we may perceive it, there is that in us which is eternal and changeless. Robert Crosbie, “What Reincarnates?” 1910

In the future awaits a fundamental redefinition of Modernism and the entire through-line of the 20th century . You cannot re-enchant what is already enchanted.
These four can profitably be read in the order as shown here, although each has a different goal.

Rudhyar’s The Galactic Dimension of Astrology: The Sun is Also a Star is a trail map towards “galactic consciousness.” A stand-out expression of 1975-era, new age esotericism. Appears to have never been digitized?

There is no Modernism without the New Age.
Modernity is defined by a new sense of natural mutability and human power. This does not necessarily mean secularisation either in terms of naturalism or humanism. It can equally mean a heightened religio-magical understanding. Faivre is absolutely crucial reading for post pomo.

The zodiac is an artifact of viewpoint just like the retrograde motion of planets. Retrograde is an illusion of geocentrism; the fixed stars are an illusion of heliocentrism.
