Variety social posts these days just read like @ClickHole posts - "Jennifer Lopez SAID WHAT?"

Jennifer Lopez says Oscar winner "Nomadland" is her "worst type of film." “It’s not why I go to the movies. I like musicals. I like romantic comedies. I like thrillers, you know? And [‘Nomadland’] is a slow-moving thing about grief, and there’s no escapism to it. And I do like some movies like that… but that one I just didn’t. It’s just a taste thing,” she continued. “And I know we need movies about grief! I understand." variety.com/2026/film/news/j…

So it's, like, the 'First 200 days', then?

So many well intended creative, commercial and political decisions have led to this utter calamity.
Today we’re announcing an update on plans for the future of Doctor Who. Read all about it on the Doctor Who website ➡️ bbc.in/4vzxDuI

Christopher Nolan's too busy on another creative plane to use email or a smartphone... but I'm certain he is delighted to see Universal Studios launch a Discord Quest - "Journey with Telemachus to earn 700 Discord Orbs!" - and will be online playing with the rest of us proles.

Stay on games forums & socials long enough to see same personalities emerge from the same single-word usernames. You expect long-term fans-turned-pop-culture-commentators to develop an understanding of the biz. But Xbox exclusivity stuff has proven a hitherto unforeseen ignorance

"Child safety looks like well-funded education, robust social services, and meaningful guardrails on [...] AI technologies and platforms." Well put, @mer__edith. (I saw her push back on the "inevitability" of AI during a Slush panel and was immediately a fan)
Our statement on the UK government’s demand that all content on all devices sold or used in the country be scanned, on the presumption of nudity, using a dystopian combination of age verification and content scanning. This proposal will not safeguard children. It endangers us all. signal.org/blog/pdfs/2026-06…

Steel Battalion is a cute touch but the idea anyone had a Crimson Skies poster up is outright fantasy... if they wanted to be really accurate they'd have a PS2 as well as, from what I remember, the data showed a significant overlap in ownership that gen
Xbox has an “Xbox Eras” space at #XboxFanfest this year for every generation of console. Too much nostalgia.

Finished FFVII Rebirth this week (I started in June '24 and have played it in three 15 hour chunks). Converted me into an FF fanboy! Multiverse stories are ten a penny these days but it’s pleasing the concept is used to reckon with the game’s legacy (despite vague ending)

And obv just in time for that trailer for Part 3, yay! But then I did a little googling after SGF wrapped to see reactions and... booo. So glad I don't follow much of this game's community, lots of unnecessary moaning about such an expansive and well-crafted game.

This is cute and I am a sucker for this stuff but it’s also a bit… crap? The memes about LEGO these days just being a ‘big statue of a thing Gen X’ers remember’ are very true. Licensing by numbers. And the instructions say you can make the Japanese version - well, you cannot.

A delight to see British games IP on food promos, but the French household is bereft to discover this promotion has bloody EXPIRED. Only bought these yesterday.

Watched the Sharma interview w/ Bloomberg. First impressions matter, but '100 days' talk is presidential nonsense. CEOs say it often, it's waffle. Love the idea of Xbox going being a 'challenger' platform again, but changing the spelling to 'XBOX' is not how to tell that story...

heavens, stumbled upon a link to this tweet. What a treasure trove we had - blood boils to think much of this stuff was binned by the new owners of the mag a few months after this
Found these glamour shots in the MCV archive

A peculiar publication. I’m taken by the style but confounded by other elements. ‘Video games are culture’ isn’t the bold proclamation this thinks it is. (My Xennial ass was co-editing a fanzine with ‘video games culture’ as the subtitle some, good lord, 25 years ago…)

Four years after I wrote it off, Hacks managed to not only turn it around after an unnecessarily cruel S2, but delivered the rarest thing: a show with a good, and earned, five-seasons-in-the-making happy ending finale.
Replying to @Michael_French
Another 'merely' good premium TV show that would have been a damn fine movie.

The only problem is we never saw a full Deborah show. I always thought the show might be building up to a full hour of her actual stand up.

Channelling Tina Fey's 'quiet luxury' lesson every time someone asks me about SXSW London. "Authenticity is dangerous and expensive. I don’t think so, honey."

Sir Paul McCartney doing Chicken Shop Date, a TikTok Live gig, SNL and then the Colbert show. Tell me the age of the person leading your comms team without telling me the age of the person leading your comms team, etc etc.
