🏠 Last week I caught up with residents of the Hucknall Colliery development about concerns around high estate management charges, the lack of accountability and the poor performance of managing agent FirstPort. I'll be taking this back to Parliament next week and will keep pushing for change ✅

This morning I spoke to @SophyRidgeSky at Sky News about my birth experience and why that drives me to improve maternity care 👇
🗣️ "If I can't speak up when you're that vulnerable, who can?" MP @MichelleWelshMP who has recently been appointed as the government's first Maternity Adviser, shares with @SophyRidgeSky and @WilfredFrost her own birth experience which has galvanised her to make change.

Great visit to the Hucknall Business HUB - a brilliant example of how local spaces can bring people together and help the community thrive. I was shown around by Gemma, whose energy and commitment to the hub is clear in every corner. Adam also gave me a tour of his fantastic gym, which is already becoming a real asset for residents looking to stay active and connected 🤝 What struck me most were the people using the hub to meet, chat, and support one another. Do go and check it out!

Today’s meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Maternity focused on birth conversations and support systems. We heard from the @MidwivesRCM on their Birth Conversations Toolkit, the CEO of @NCTcharity Angela McConville, Mohamed Omer MBE of Gardens of Peace and families with lived experience of birth trauma. We also discussed the impact of racism in maternity care and the urgent need to address inequalities that continue to affect outcomes and experiences for too many women and families. Listening and learning must be at the heart of improving maternity care, and that is why these meetings are so important. 📑 Read the RCM's Birth Conversation Toolkit here: rcm.org.uk/wp-content/upload…

🚨 UPDATE: Serious Incident in Linby Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following a serious collision involving a car and three pedestrians. Officers were called to Linby Lane, Linby, shortly before 9pm on Friday evening (5 June) after a BMW collided with three pedestrians who were walking on a footpath. I am deeply saddened to report that a man and a woman in their 60s have sustained serious injuries, while an 18-year-old man remains in a critical condition in hospital. My thoughts are with all those injured, as well as their families, friends and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time. I am in direct contact with Nottinghamshire Police and will continue to monitor developments closely. A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs. He remains in police custody. Linby Lane was closed between Moor Road and Wighay Road while emergency services dealt with the incident. The road reopened shortly before 8am on Saturday morning. Detective Sergeant Charlotte Henson, of Nottinghamshire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, has appealed for witnesses and any available dashcam footage. This collision occurred on a busy stretch of road and officers believe there may be people who saw the blue BMW involved in the moments before the collision. If you have any information, witnessed the incident, or have relevant dashcam footage, please contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 quoting incident 864 of 5 June 2026. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Thank you to the emergency services who responded so quickly, and to members of our community who have already come forward to assist. If you wish to contact me regarding this incident, please email: Michelle.Welsh.MP@parliament.uk I will continue to provide updates when further information becomes available.

I have been informed of a very serious incident in Linby. I am in contact with Nottinghamshire Police and will keep you updated. My thoughts are with those affected by this awful incident. Officers were called to Linby Lane, near Hucknall, at around 9pm this evening. Linby Lane is currently shut between Moor Road and Wighay Road and is expected to remain closed for some time. The three casualties have been taken to hospital with serious injuries. A man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. Please be aware that road closures are in place after police were called to reports of a serious collision involving a car and three pedestrians. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and find an alternative route.

A pleasure to visit Briton Fabricators to take a tour today. Many people may not realise that Nottingham’s new Waterside Bridge - the city’s first major bridge over the River Trent in almost 70 years - was fabricated right here in Hucknall by Briton Fabricators using British steel 🔩⚙️⛓️ It’s great to see world-class engineering and manufacturing happening locally, making a real contribution to Nottinghamshire and beyond. Thanks for having me!

This week I spoke at the @birth_better 11th Annual Birth Trauma Summit about the need for action, not words 💬 We must listen to families, tackle inequalities in maternity care, support workforce wellbeing, and ensure accountability drives lasting change.
