We were thrilled to stand with lawmakers today as they introduced pieces of the Ratepayer Bill of Rights.
A Michigan Ratepayer Bill of Rights would put people over profits by:
-Guaranteeing Michiganders the right to fair compensation when the power goes out
-Ensuring residents no longer pay the highest energy costs in the Midwest for some of the worst service in the country
-Protecting residents from paying for CEO bonuses and private jets while being left in the dark
-Banning political contributions to state lawmakers from the utilities they’re supposed to oversee on behalf of the people
-Ensuring residents can generate their own reliable energy through solar arrays on their homes or with their neighbors
At a time when voting rights and democratic institutions are under attack at the federal, state, and local levels, @garlin is the leader we can trust to protect the voting rights Michiganders have fought so hard to secure and continue building a more prosperous and sustainable future and an accessible, vibrant democracy for all Michiganders.
The same politicians taking away cleaner, cheaper options are pushing to keep these dirty, toxic, expensive coal plants open. Who pays the price? Hardworking Americans who just want clean air and lower bills.
Michiganders are fed up with the influence corporations like DTE and Consumers have on our elected officials, so we came together and DID something about it. Thanks to the hard work of many, the Money Out of Politics ballot petition got the signatures it needed to make the November ballot. THIS is what democracy looks like.
From utility accountability and clean, affordable energy to tackling toxic water contamination and protecting our Great Lakes, Michigan LCV backs candidates for elected office who understand the issues impacting Michigan communities and our environment, and are committed to advancing equitable solutions. We are pleased to announce our second round of endorsements for the state legislature.
Declaring an energy emergency to keep a coal plant open while simultaneously excluding support for affordable, renewable energy sources? Sounds more like propping up fossil fuel companies at the expense of Michiganders' health AND pocketbooks. This coal plant is costing hundreds of millions to operate, and that cost is directly handed down to Michigan ratepayers.
PFAS, or forever chemicals, poison our water, our soil, and our bodies and they don't go away. The EPA set limits to keep us safe, and now this Administration wants to throw that out the window.
Michigan communities like Flint, Oscoda, and Grayling know what it means to lose access to safe drinking water. For all those Michiganders who’ve worked on this issue, know that I am with you in this fight. This isn’t over.

A HUGE win for Michigan: The Supreme Court rejected Enbridge's request to move the Line 5 case from state to federal court. AG Nessel fought and won to make it clear that decisions on Line 5 and Michigan's drinking water, economy, and way of life should be made HERE in Michigan, not in the halls of Washington.
No matter what you do to help the planet, be it lifestyle changes, contacting your lawmaker, or rallying with us, THANK YOU for standing with us to create a healthier environment and healthier communities. Happy Earth Day!
The fight for environmental justice never stops, but we do pause occasionally for some fun with our volunteers! Last night in Kalamazoo, some of our West Michigan volunteers got together for button-making and learned about actions they can take to protect Michigan's environment.

If only....
Sad to say this is an April Fools joke, but any Michigander who's opened their energy bill recently probably saw right through this one. We need stronger legislation to hold utilities accountable and ensure Michigan has access to cleaner, more affordable, and reliable energy!
This is a huge election year for Michigan, and we are hitting the ground running with our first canvass of the election season. This weekend, our team knocked over 2,000 doors in Saginaw Township for @ChedrickGreene, running for Senate in the special election in May.
Looking for a way to get involved this election cycle? Join us on our next canvass!
