Every gift creates an obligation, weighed carefully, returned in the proper season with interest of feeling. Here, the gift arrives before you have even proven you can pay for dinner. This is not an appetizer. This is a declaration: we trust you. Eat. I ate with the gravity the moment deserved. And then — I must report this calmly — the basket emptied, and a new one appeared. "Did we…?" "Refill," the waiter said. "It's bottomless." Bottomless. They have wells of salsa. The supply lines of this nation are beyond anything my ancestors imagined. My friend warned me. "Don't fill up on chips, dude." Too late. I had accepted three baskets. Honor demanded each one be finished — an unfinished gift is an insult. By the time my actual food arrived, I was a ruined man. I was not hungry. I was not comfortable. I had been defeated by a courtesy. Generosity that arrives before the request cannot be repaid. It can only be survived. I know the rule now. I have made my peace with the basket. One basket. Two at the most. Who am I deceiving. There is no number of baskets I would refuse. The trust of a nation is in that salsa, and I intend to honor all of it.

Our plan for the coming days: We‘ll be staying in Texas for a few more days and return to Houston on the 17th for the Portugal vs Congo match. After that match we‘ll jump straight into the car to start driving towards Oklahoma City for the Ella Langley concert on the 18th.

昨日は昼と夜にテキサスステーキの有名チェーンを利用🥩 ・昼 Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen ・夜 Texas Roadhouse とちらも6oz(170g)のサーロインステーキが15USD程度なのでドリンクとチップを加えて25USD前後となるため良心価格。この超円安下でも、まぁこれなら..と思える。 Texas Roadhouseが肉本来の味わいを引き出すシンプルな味付けのため、個人的にはこちらが好み。第3戦のときも再訪したい。

The hotel that JJ Watt put us up in gave us a tour of their biggest suite. It costs $150,000 a night. Completely insane. It even had its own basketball court.😭

This is all so insane. We found this when we got back to our room. And then someone even sent cupcakes to our room. I genuinely don’t understand how it got to this point. We’re just normal World Cup tourists.😭😭

WE HAVE ARRIVED!!!! Another insane stadium, and the roof is closed so it’s actually a little chilly in here.

THE WORLD CUP TRIP HAS FINALLY MADE IT TO TEXAS!!!! After 7 days on the road (yes a lot of detours) we have made it to the state where Germany will play its first World Cup match!

Our room for the coming days in Houston. I don’t even know what to say about this. This is just unreal. No words. Huge huge thank you to JJ Watt for giving me and my friends the opportunity to stay at a place like this🙏🙏🙏

The vibes are insane. Driving through the great state of Louisiana on our way to New Orleans. It’s crazy how diverse this country is, every day the scenery looks different.

The most surreal thing of our trip so far. Currently driving towards Louisiana and the radio station we were listening to started talking about our trip and played Ella Langley especially for us😭😭😭
