Come on, let’s be realistic. Hammond isn’t going to build enough hotels, restaurants, and attractions to keep out-of-town
@ChicagoBears fans and visiting fans from spending most of their time in Chicago.
For a lot of those people, the game is only part of the trip. They’re coming to see Chicago. They’re staying in Chicago hotels, eating in Chicago restaurants, going to Chicago bars, and doing Chicago tourist stuff. The Bears game just happens to be on the itinerary.
Even with a massive entertainment district, Hammond isn’t suddenly becoming Chicago. There simply isn’t enough there to keep visitors from crossing the state line.
Any way you slice it, a stadium in Hammond still pumps money into the Chicago economy while costing Chicago taxpayers exactly $0 for the stadium itself. That’s a trade I’d make all day long.
