True. If Chicago can't get the stadium, it prefers Hammond.
Come on, let’s be realistic. Hammond isn’t going to build enough hotels, restaurants, and attractions to keep out-of-town @ChicagoBears fans and visiting fans from spending most of their time in Chicago. For a lot of those people, the game is only part of the trip. They’re coming to see Chicago. They’re staying in Chicago hotels, eating in Chicago restaurants, going to Chicago bars, and doing Chicago tourist stuff. The Bears game just happens to be on the itinerary. Even with a massive entertainment district, Hammond isn’t suddenly becoming Chicago. There simply isn’t enough there to keep visitors from crossing the state line. Any way you slice it, a stadium in Hammond still pumps money into the Chicago economy while costing Chicago taxpayers exactly $0 for the stadium itself. That’s a trade I’d make all day long.

Hear me out! Joe Rogan's 247 minute podcasts have maybe 13 minutes of content, the length of a 60 Minutes segment.
Austin-based podcaster Joe Rogan reportedly being considered for 60 Minutes role. statesman.com/news/politics/…
Community note
A CBS News spokesperson stated that reports of Joe Rogan being considered for a 60 Minutes role are false. statesman.com/news/politics/… barrettmedia.com/2026/06/04/cbs…

Now this is wisdom.
Re: Scott Pelley/ @CBS--I've been on staff at magazines when an editor you like is replaced by an outsider you distrust. I've never thrown a fit like Pelley did. That's just not what you do. You make the new person feel at home and then stab them in the back as soon as you can.

The four- person NBC baseball booth was awful. Should be Jason Benetti and someone else who's a regular.

Are the Cubs gonna win again this year? Shota Imanga is now the same pitcher we saw in the playoffs last year.

Agree. In or out for the Irish. Preferably Big Ten. When Jim Phillips leaves, ND will have a hard time continuing its deal with the ACC though the conference could implode sooner than his departure.
With all that’s happened involving @NDFootball and @theACC lately, is it time for the league to give the Irish an ultimatum? I know what I’d say: sportingnews.com/us/ncaa-foo…

Life is like a guitar. @ericchurch offers a brillianct commencement address (and guitar lesson) at his alma mater, UNC, that belongs in the pantheon of addresses of this sort with those of Steve Jobs (Stanford) and David Foster Wallace (Kenyon College).

If college administrators were sincere about the purpose of higher education, they'd abolish "big" time sports. The US would go to a Euro model, where the best players went clubs to develop. They aren't. Too much money. As Bob Verdi noted it's hypocricy. Of the worst kind.

For every person that claims college sports is falling off a cliff, this is what matters.
A new UMass Amherst Poll found 61% of Americans say NIL, the transfer portal and athlete pay changes have not affected their interest in college sports. (N=1,000, conducted March 20-25)

🚨 SHOT OF THE YEAR! 🚨 Cooper Kroncke hit the shot of his life — draining one from beyond half court at the buzzer to lift the Lake Central Indians to a stunning 51-48 win over Munster in the sectional semifinal. The incredible buzzer-beater sends LC to the Sectional Championship tomorrow night against Crown Point. One shot. Absolute chaos. March magic. Hoosier Hysteria. 🏀 #sctop10

Lou said some cringey stuff in his later years, but I still want to salute him. At age 23, I was assigned the ND football beat for the Chicago Trib. Lou was terrific to me — and hilarious to all. You could ask him one question and get four different notebook items. A few memories: He was adamant about being on time. So naturally I was late for our first one-on-one interview. Using an actual map (gulp), I exited the highway and drove straight into downtown South Bend. Had no cell phone. By the time I arrived at his office I was embarrassed and probably out of breath. I apologized profusely about getting lost. He put me at ease. Smiled and said: “Happens all the time.” When he hinted at resigning during a press conference in ‘97, I followed him back to his office. He offered no crumbs but said: “I admire you for coming back here to ask.” Loved this line while ND was in Ireland to play Navy: “The USA Today international is so thin you can toss it in the air and read it before it hits the ground.” Still his best all-time quote: “I didn’t realize how fast Rocket (Ismail) was until I saw him playing tennis — by himself.” He was FEARED by everyone on his team, despite having the build of a clothes hanger. One time we noticed a gash on his nose. He wouldn’t tell us how he got it. Turned out he was so steamed at his o-line, he stepped into a drill and hammered a DT. But he forgot to remove his glasses! RIP Lou, and thanks for being so welcoming to the new kid on the beat.
