Good to speak to my Ukrainian counterpart @FedorovMykhailo today. I updated him on the shadow fleet operation, and we discussed the UK’s steadfast support to Ukraine’s defence as we prepare for the UDCG meeting that I will chair alongside Germany next week. Slava Ukraini.

Overnight, Royal Marines Commandos of the @RoyalNavy were involved in the interception of a shadow fleet vessel. They were supported by @HMSSutherland, @HMSLedbury and the Maritime Air Group. Mission success thanks to the skills, bravery and professionalism of our people.

Over this weekend I signed off a request for military assistance - to assist and enable the National Crime Agency to board a Russian shadow fleet tanker travelling through the English Channel. Our brave Royal Marine Commandos boarded the vessel in the early hours of this morning in a highly professional operation. We have the finest armed forces and law enforcement capabilities in the world. This is a massive blow to Putin. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/clye…

Nine suspected illegal workers have been arrested by Immigration Enforcement at multiple DPD depots. Across bases in Basingstoke and Newbury, officers conducted right to work checks on over 100 individuals. Seven Indian nationals, one Ghanaian national and one Pakistani national were identified as immigration offenders. Work will now begin to establish who the liable party is for employing the individuals.  An employer in breach of the law can receive a fine of up to £60,000 per worker. Since July 2024, the Government has increased illegal working enforcement activity to the highest level in British history, with an 83% rise in arrests and 77% increase in raids across the UK.

I make no apologies for doing the right thing to protect children from paedophiles. This is about stopping the coercion and sextortion of children, not surveilling or policing people’s phones. This technology is already on devices. The tech firms just need to switch it on to block children from seeing nude imagery. There is no reporting, no data collection, no monitoring, and no images leaving the device. All adults will be able to switch off the protections if they are over 18. This is targeted, proportionate and - most importantly - it protects children from vile abusers.
Starmer wants spyware to be installed on every single phone in the country — that’s unlikely to actually protect children but will raise significant risks for your privacy.
Community note
This is a misrepresentation of people's concerns around how adults must prove their age under this new rule. ~3 million people signed a petition calling for this to stop because they are concerned about privacy by being forced to digitally prove that they are over 18. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/7301… gov.uk/government/col… privacyinternational.org/explainer/2672… computerweekly.com/opinion/Whats-…

2 years in after inheriting a mess, just starting to turn the corner… I’ll tell you what we need! A leadership contest. The state of this country is down to politicians who refuse to allow stability at the top.

Good to meet Home Office Minister Mike Tapp MP and discuss immigration policy, economic growth and the contribution of skilled workers and international graduates to the UK. I was pleased to raise a question on fairness for those who have built their lives, careers and businesses in the UK while continuing to contribute to our economy and communities. Thank you to @PolitlcsUK for hosting the discussion and to @MikeTappTweets for engaging on these important issues.

It is with great sadness that we can confirm the deaths of Lieutenant Commander Chris Gayson and Lieutenant Lily-Mae Fisher of 846 Naval Air Squadron, and Petty Officer Owen Green of 845 Naval Air Squadron, who died in Devon during routine training activity on 3 June.

I am deeply saddened to learn that Lily was among the Navy personnel who lost their lives in the helicopter accident yesterday in Devon. Lily was a force of nature, the only serving female Commando, and inspiration to other young women - and frankly to me as well. When I met her in Parliament in May 2025, I put the following post out on LinkedIn with the photo below. "Her journey ... is one of courage, persistence, and service. Lily is doing a fantastic job helping young people understand what life in the Armed Forces is really like, and why service matters. We need more stories like hers in the public eye." The names of the three individuals who sadly lost their lives this week have been released in full: Lt Cdr Chris Gayson, Lt Lil-Mae Fisher, PO Owen Green. My thoughts are with their families and loved ones at this terribly sad moment. In a statement carried on the Royal Navy website, Lily's family say of her: “Lily-Mae was an extraordinary woman, daughter, sister, and partner. To say she was full of life is an understatement: she took every opportunity to push her limits, achieve more, and bring out the best in those around her. “We are so proud of everything she accomplished. She has left an immeasurable hole in our lives, and in all the lives she has touched and inspired. The family kindly ask for time and space at this difficult time.”
