Protests by the People vs. Protests by the System
Looking at the signs from two different movements reveals the difference between genuine public anger and a well-organized political operation.
In the ongoing anti-election fraud protests, most signs are hastily handmade with markers and crayons, even days after the controversy began. They are the definition of spontaneous grassroots action.
By contrast, during the 2024 anti-martial law protests, professionally printed signs reading "Lift Martial Law" and "Impeach Yoon" appeared outside the National Assembly within hours of the martial law declaration. K-pop blasted from sound trucks as protesters carrying lightsticks followed organized chants.
The contrast between handmade signs and professionally produced printouts raises an obvious question: which movement came from ordinary citizens, and which was backed by an existing political machine?
