Sunday Night Salute: Army Staff Sgt. Michael H. Ollis
As we approach America 250, we want to take a moment to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of our nation's servicemembers. To kick off our Sunday Night Salute series, we are honored to highlight a true American hero.
At just 24 years old, Staff Sgt. Michael H. Ollis gave his life while shielding wounded coalition officer Lt. Karol Cierpka from a suicide bomber. Ollis was serving in Afghanistan with the 10th Mountain Division when his outpost, Forward Operating Base Ghazni, came under attack.
This year, he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his extraordinary bravery and ultimate sacrifice. Rest in peace, Staff Sgt. Ollis. Your courage and selflessness will never be forgotten.
