I was struck today by how rays of sunlight illuminated the painted underside of this owl’s wing in an oil by the British figurative artist Stephen Cook. The effect was sudden & very beautiful, dare I say revelatory. My photo hardly does it justice. It has stayed with me all day.

Lady Raglan misled a generation into believing that what she dubbed the #GreenMan motif (in 1939) is anything to do with pagan celebration of King of May, Jack-in-the-Green, Robin Hood, etc. The motif more accurately referred to as the #DisgorgingFoliateHeadMotif arose in 1/3
