Today’s informal meeting of 🇪🇺 EU energy ministers focused on Europe’s key energy priorities. @CY2026EU Minister of Energy Žygimantas Vaičiūnas shared a short media comment on the main agenda topics. ⬇️

Met with Žygimantas Vaičiūnas, Minister of Energy of Lithuania 🇱🇹 @MinEnergyLT. Grateful for the visit to Ukraine on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster. Also thanked him for visiting one of our energy facilities repeatedly targeted by russia. We highly value Lithuania’s energy support: 356 deliveries totalling over 6,000 tonnes, including power transformers and other critical equipment. An additional €5.7 million was contributed by Lithuania to the Energy Support Fund for Ukraine. These funds were used to procure essential equipment for restoring district heating infrastructure. We discussed further equipment transfers from decommissioned Lithuanian plants and thanked him for the deliveries already received. We also discussed preparations for the winter, protection of the energy system, and the importance of integrating Ukraine’s experience into the work of European institutions. I also shared our plans to develop distributed generation. Lithuania has the companies and expertise to support this direction. Lithuania remains a reliable and strategic partner. Ще €5,7 млн Литва передала до Фонду підтримки енергетики. Ці кошти були спрямовані на закупівлю важливого устаткування для відновлення тепломереж. Обговорили передачу обладнання з декомісованих литовських станцій. Подякував за вже отримані вантажі. Обговорили питання підготовки до зими, захисту енергетичної системи та важливість залучення українського досвіду у роботі європейських інституцій. Литва має компанії та експертизу, які можуть допомогти в цьому напрямку. Литва залишається нашим надійним і стратегічним партнером. Дякуємо за всю надану підтримку, яка допомогла нам вистояти вже три важких зими.

Vice Minister of Energy of Lithuania Airidas Daukšas participated in #WindEurope2026 in Madrid, highlighting the key role of renewables and electrification in strengthening Europe’s energy security.

Vice Minister Gabriel Gorbačevski met with Turkey’s Ambassador Esra Toplu 🇹🇷 to discuss energy market developments and cooperation in infrastructure projects, and presented Lithuania’s 6 GW renewable energy capacity.

🤝 Armenian delegation led by Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Narek Aptonian visited the Ministry of Energy, where Vice Minister Airidas Daukšas presented Lithuania’s experience in renewable energy (RES), grid integration, and energy storage.

Held a meeting in Brussels with Lithuanian Energy Minister Žygimantas Vaičiūnas. I thanked him for the significant support provided this winter, particularly for the transfer of generators to Kyiv. The assistance and equipment we received helped our power system withstand the challenges, and we are deeply grateful for this support. We also discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation and implementing joint energy projects. Ukraine is interested in acquiring equipment from decommissioned power plants, and we agreed to work together on this issue. On March 16, the EU Energy Council discussed the European Grids Package, aiming to boost cross-border infrastructure and strengthen electricity system resilience. The Energy Minister Vaičiūnas stressed the need to protect critical infrastructure and ensure its rapid restoration.

On Feb 25, Minister Ž. Vaičiūnas attended a trilateral MoU ceremony in the U.S., where partners agreed to explore BWRX-300 small modular reactors for Lithuania.

At the Transatlantic Gas Security Summit, the 🇺🇸, represented by @ENERGY Secretary Chris Wright and Interior @SecretaryBurgum, and 12 European countries, including 🇱🇹, signed a Joint Statement to diversify gas supplies, phase out russian energy, and strengthen regional security.
