Charlotte is particularly intrigued by Tom’s description of Clara Brereton and listens with “solicitude and enjoyment.” What do you think Austen was trying to set up here? Is Tom’s take on Clara’s nature to be trusted? #SanditonSummerBookClub #Sanditon

Did anything else particularly stand out to you in this chapter? What do you think of the tv show’s decision to cut Lady Denham’s backstory? #SanditonSummerBookClub #Sanditon

A few observations on #Sanditon S3 Ep1: Why do Charlotte and Ralph get out of the carriage on the promenade? Wouldn't they go to the Parkers' house? Have they pulled up in front of Georgiana's new place instead? Very confused. #SanditonWatchParty

When Lady Montrose remarks on Mr. Colbourne's "pleasing countenance" to Lady Susan I crack up every time, because the camera cuts to AC sulking and looking stony-faced. That countenance is not pleased, Lady M! He's just been turned down by the woman he loves! #SanditonWatchParty

Ugh, Lockhart is such a drama queen! Talk about a specter at the feast. He's gone from red flag rake last season to mustache-twirling villain this one. Even his clothes are different. Was the bohemian artist look just a ruse? #SanditonWatchParty #Sanditon

This is a wild take. I read P&P at 13 and loved it. Did I understand every bit of cultural context and textual nuance? No. But I certainly didn't find it incomprehensible. Maybe this Dr means today's teenagers are more likely to struggle with Austen, due to the literacy crisis?
Replying to @shaydeofgold
Jane Austen esp is incomprehensible to teenagers

We get only a vague sense of Charlotte's character (that she is "pleasing" and was kind and attentive to the Parkers during their stay). And unlike the series, she is only the eldest of the daughters at home, not the eldest of all the children. #SanditonSummerBookClub

Mary Parker is described as a passive character, guided by her husband in everything unable to provide him with "cooler reflection." I totally understand why the TV writers changed her character. Not much appetite these days for ineffectual women. #SanditonSummerBookClub
