A reporter asked me about the new Dave Chappelle special. I said that I was sensitive about defamation of trans people and that I wished comics would exercise more restraint. Then I actually watched the show. The first word that came to mind was "funny."

Exactly. There's funny things about being trans, just like every other kind of life. It's one thing to not find the jokes funny but it's another to believe he's transphobic. I think he's a genius, a true master of the craft.
As the transwoman he talks about in the epilogue, I'll tell you that he 100% supports trans people. And the LGBT community. Comedy isn't a documentary or a sermon or a Ted talk. It's comedy.
Punching down requires you to consider yourself superior to another group. @DaveChappelle doesn't consider himself better than me in any way. He isn't punching up or punching down. He's punching lines. That's his job and he's a master of his craft. #SticksAndStones#imthatdaphne
