Research by Professor Stuart Kirby from Lancaster University, analysing data from Lancashire Constabulary during the 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014 World Cups, found a 38% increase in reported domestic abuse incidents when England lost, and a 26% increase when England won or drew.

Research has found that reports of domestic abuse increase around World Cup matches, particularly when emotions are running high and alcohol is involved.
Football doesn't cause domestic abuse. Abusers do.
This isn't about taking away the excitement of the World Cup but more about raising awareness of a reality many victims face during major sporting events.
