John was last in contact with family several days ago and was reported missing after neighbors became concerned when they had not seen or heard from him. His vehicle and phone were later located at his residence in Colfax. Search and Rescue volunteers are searching areas in and around Colfax today, including locations John is known to frequent. John enjoys walking and hiking in the area and is known to visit Stephens Trail. Among the search crews are also two scent tracking dog teams. At this time, investigators are also actively working the case, reviewing surveillance video and following up on leads that may help determine John’s whereabouts. While search efforts are underway, there is currently no evidence indicating where John may have gone, and investigators do not have a confirmed starting point for search operations. Detectives from the Fontana Police Department's Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force discovered that George Castaneda, 35, was allegedly downloading and distributing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) over the internet. On June 11, 2026, detectives served a search warrant at Castaneda's residence in the 7300 block of Kamloops Avenue in the City of Fontana. During the search, investigators seized multiple electronic devices and located evidence related to the possession, downloading, and distribution of child sexual abuse material. Castaneda was arrested for possession and distribution of child pornography and booked at the West Valley Detention Center. During the investigation, detectives discovered that Castaneda allegedly posed as a minor on Snapchat to solicit minors to send sexually explicit images and videos of themselves. Castaneda used the Snapchat usernames "geocast_2025" and "g_castaneda2006." Detectives believe there may be additional victims and are asking anyone who may have communicated with Castaneda through these Snapchat accounts, or who may have sent images or videos to him, to contact Detective Sandoval at isandoval@fontanaca.gov @CityofFontanaCA

On June 9th, 2026, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Coroner Office requested the public’s help in locating the family of 53-year-old Pedro Sousa Garcia, who passed away on May 7th, 2026, in the City of Salinas. The Coroner’s Office had exhausted all available information and attempts to locate his family were unsuccessful. “Social media has become a powerful tool for connecting with our community and reaching people in ways that traditional databases and records searches sometimes cannot,” said Sheriff Tina Nieto. “In this case, our public request for assistance generated valuable information that helped us locate Mr. Garcia’s family. The response we received demonstrates the strength of community partnerships and how, by working together, we can help reunite families and provide the closure and dignity their loved ones deserve during a difficult time.” The Monterey County Sheriff’s Coroner Office is grateful for the overwhelming support from the community.
