AU Commission Chairperson mourns Passing of the Former #Angola Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has learned with deep sadness of the passing of H.E. Manuel Domingos Augusto, former Minister of External Relations of the Republic of Angola, distinguished diplomat, and a committed Pan-Africanist. The AUC Chairperson @ymahmoudali extends his heartfelt condolences, on behalf of the African Union Commission, to the Government and people of the Republic of Angola, as well as to the bereaved family, friends, and colleagues of the late diplomat. The African Union joins Angola in mourning this profound loss and pays tribute to H.E. Manuel Domingos Augusto’s enduring legacy of service to his nation and to Africa. May his soul rest in peace. E Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, delivered by Ambassador Mohamed Fathi Edrees, Permanent Observer of the #AU to #UN, Keynote speakers included H. E. Mr. Milan Meetarbhan, PR of Mauritius 🇲🇺 to the @UN and current Chair of the African Group, Н.E. Mr. Samuel Yao Kumah, PR of Ghana 🇬🇭 to the UN, on behalf of the Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Assembly of Heads of States (Burundi),H.E. The @AfricanUnionUN and the @MissionAngola co-hosted the 2nd Workshop in a series of the Angolan academic Leadership workshops ahead of the high-level HBCUs Leadership Meeting on the theme “The Future of #HBCU in Africa” to be held in Angola 🇦🇴 on June 17-19 , 2026. The first Session was launched by H.E Tete Antonio, Minister of External Relations of Angola 🇦🇴 and Chair of the Executive Council of the AU. Opening statements were delivered by the Secretary of State for Higher Education of the Republic of Angola, Mr Eugénio Adolfo Alves da Silva, the PR of Angola to the UN, Amb. Francisco Jose da Cruz, and welcome remarks by the Permanent Observer of the AU to the UN, Amb. Mohamed Edrees . Participants included, academicians, diplomats, students and experts who provided insights on the development of #HBCUs universities and its impact on cultural and education diplomacy.
