Smith: it’s coal mining or no money for health and education. There’s no way she wants this going to the people. #ableg #abpoli

Your regular reminder that Danielle Smith chooses which referenda questions are put in front of Albertans. Not petitioners. Not signatories. Danielle Smith.
Premier Danielle Smith is asked if she will commit to @CorbLund 's referendum question word for word. She says Lund checked the legislative option box so it will go to a committee like the Forever Canada petition to decide what happens.

Neither is Canada, thankfully.
Canada may be in a recession, but Alberta sure isn't 💥 Thanks to having no PST, the lowest corporate taxes in Canada, aggressively cutting red tape, and a relentless focus on keeping Alberta affordable, we continue to be the economic engine of the country. More evidence that Alberta can keep growing and thriving in an uncertain world 📈

Enormous mistake by @policy_school to do contract work for the Alberta Government. This should have been done in-house by the Government of Alberta’s Department of Finance. Leave academics to do their own analysis independent of government contracts. theglobeandmail.com/world/ar…

Hitler blew his own brains out, and the German surrender was unconditional. Japan got nuked twice before it capitulated, also unconditionally. No negotiations. This guy is supposed to be smart, but it doesn't translate to military history.
JD Vance: If you go back to WW2 or every major conflict in human history, they all ended with some kind of negotiation.
Community note
World War II ended with unconditional surrenders by Germany on May 8, 1945, and Japan on September 2, 1945, rather than negotiation. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unconditi… archives.gov/milestone-docu… nationalww2museum.org/war/topics/end…

I like Mark Carney but I hate when he sounds like Danielle freaking Smith.
The Liberals are announcing another multi-billion dollar strategy and promising prices will come down. I wonder if they realize that the more money they borrow and spend, the more expensive food gets for Canadians?

New feature on Canadian Elections Tracker: There is now a map that you can click on ridings and it will bring up the candidates for the riding! You can also click on the riding name in the candidate nomination chart and it will zoom in on the riding on the map, so you can easily see where it is located. First for Manitoba, and other provinces in the future. Check it out here: sites.google.com/view/canadi… #mbpoli #cdnpoli

I’m a woman, a partner, mother, daughter, analyst, satirist, humanist, commentator, etc et-effing-cetera. The sooner we distance ourselves from political parties, the better.
This whole episode is an example of what @reihan calls “punitive egalitarianism.” We let it persist because we don’t see its costs—or we’re weirdly proud of them. As @tylercowen has observed, one of the main reasons why Canada has less inequality than the U.S. is because we export inequality there. If Musk had stayed and created his companies in Canada, our Gini co-efficient would be higher. But so would our employment, incomes and national wealth.

This seems like something that someone who doesn’t know Indigenous people own structures on reserves but not land. Just saying: it’s not cool, eh?
You don't care about Canada. You literally think Canada is a “colonial mistake.” You forced DRIPA onto British Columbians and threatened the security of private property. You have Land Back ministers eager to tear apart British Columbia. You are the extreme activists

- Gas $700 - Data $150 - Rent $1900 - Steaks 20 days for 4 persons $2000 - Utility $650 Please, someone who is good at the economy help me budget this; my family is dying. #cdnpoli
DETACHED FROM REALITY Mark Carney just claimed the average FAMILY spends $800 per month on groceries or $10,000 per year. Has he gone to the grocery store? 4 steaks 🥩 is $100 only one meal If you ate BEEF 20 days a month x $100 that’s $2,000 without veggies, fruit or carbs

Trump preposterously claims that Iranian leaders have personally bragged to him about getting good press:
Trump: "Behind the scenes I must tell you Iran can't believe the press they get. They can't even believe it. And they told me. They said, 'It's amazing how well we're doing in the papers. We're not doing so well--' They're negotiating with us to make a deal."

As a true Canadian, I will read the options on October 19 and vote to remain rather than give Danielle Smith a mandate to ask a separation question at some future date of her choosing, if she decides to accept the results because it’s non-binding and they don’t have to.
As a true Albertan I will vote for Alberta Independence on October 19th. Not for me but for my future family and kids so they can have a prosperous future in the republic of Alberta. 🫡

Just like the QEII. Yesterday, I saw a cop move from the side of the road after pulling someone over, to re-entering traffic and pulling over someone else before I’d even reached their location.

Hoekstra doesn’t think Canadians have a sense of humour. Wants to get us some bourbon. Maybe he’s realized it’s easier to make people laugh when you ply them alcohol first.
Hoekstra: But if you need some [bourbon], send me your order and I'll see that you get some. I do know Canadians don't have much of a sense of humour, so I'm already in trouble.
