SHAPE PA is honored to recognize Matthew Kump as the 2025 High School Physical Education Teacher of the Year! 🎉 Matthew teaches at Big Spring High School in the Big Spring School District, where he serves as Department Head and Aquatics Director. He earned his B.S. in Health and Physical Education from West Chester University and his M.Ed. in Administration and Athletic Coaching from Point Park University. Matthew creates a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel safe to take risks and learn from mistakes. His “fail forward” philosophy encourages growth through experience and reflection. Using differentiated instruction and constructivist methods, he ensures all students are actively engaged and empowered to succeed. Awesome 4th and 5th grade field day planned by our PE dept. our a high schoolers did a great job leading and our students and teachers seemed to have fun! Success! Next up our students need to turn 3 despicable days into something amazing!
