🚨New paper released today: 10 Common SEN Mis(Interventions)—An Evidence Summary steplab.co/news/common-sen-m… Supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is a vital and growing challenge for schools. But it’s not straightforward. Learning is complex, marketing claims are confident, and the evidence is often hard to access. As a result, we can sometimes end up adopting approaches which are less effective than we initially think. For some, this may well be uncomfortable reading. As a profession, many of us have put time, effort and belief into these things, and lots will have seen students who looked like they were getting something from it. However, it’s essential that we temper our intuition with evidence, because ultimately: our most vulnerable students deserve it. This new paper co-authored with @Barker_J is an attempt to raise the visibility of the best available evidence around several commonly used SEN interventions. For each, we provide an overview of what the research says, offer a more informed approach, and provide a suite of rigorous links to help you get started. We hope it will serve as a useful resource and over time: push us to be even more 'evidence demanding' as a profession. As ever, let me know what you think. If you have pushes or suggestions for how this paper could be better, hit reply and give it to me straight. 👊

If you're a naturally anxious person, I recommend pursuing a high stress career path where at least you'll be compensated for anxiety you're going to have anyways.

At bedtime the 8 yo told me his teacher said: "Think of your mind like a pond full of fish and each fish is a feeling. Try to be the pond, not the fish." And all I can say is primary school has significantly improved.

Such an excellent day yesterday at the @WholeEducation Conference yesterday. @SENDMattersUK and @ModernCassie as engaging as ever, and felt good to have the opportunity to present some of our own successes to our peers in the afternoon!

If those astronauts go around the moon and can find no trace of Lisa Stansfield’s baby then I really think that’s it, we’ve exhausted all lines of enquiry

Watched University Challenge with my dad last night for the first time in about 20 years. Was pleased with myself for getting the maths questions right. Then I remembered I am a professor of mathematics. Took the shine off.

So you've just stolen 12 tons of KitKats. You are going to a. Sell it on the black market for a massive mark-up b. Stash it in the bunker for end of days prep c. Construct a Kit Kat Club out of actual KitKats d. Not sure... Did not fully think this through

We’re really pleased to share our Inclusive Teaching Framework, which we hope will help teachers and leaders support a wide range of children’s needs - by building on the evidence-based knowledge they already have, and continuing to strengthen the evidence base in this area
🆕 Introducing the Inclusive Teaching Framework – a new resource which sets out essential knowledge to help teachers understand and meet a wider range of pupils’ needs in mainstream schools. Find out what it is and why we’ve created it ⬇️🧵 (1/7)

Always worth reading any thoughts from @ModernCassie . I am still digesting the White Paper but these reflections align with mine
“High standards and inclusion are two sides of the same coin.” After reading the white paper carefully and discussing it during a SENCo forum this week, I’ve written on the shift in language, and what some of this might mean for schools in practice. moderncassie.blogspot.com/20…

This is a Mindset MUST-watch. Bookmark and share. 📌 We can become exactly who we want to become. We can control our thoughts. We can control our mind. We can make that 8-year version of us proud! Having this perspective at age 22 is just awesome. 🥇
