A little something I commissioned for moniquefieldsbooks.com. Loved working with artistbynoon. She perfectly captured my fifth-grade hair style. Artistbynoon.com

It’s hard to argue with this because I was natural long before the curly cut was created. Thank goodness I don’t go between curly and straight styles. youtu.be/3T8CnDX7cJo?si=FS1X…

Know what happens to kids who grow up with unfettered access to books? They read. They think critically. And when they have questions or feel uncomfortable, they turn to trusted adults & have conversations that help them grow. Try being that adult instead of banning books.

No lies told.
Move-in Day at Alabama. You know what that means: Avoid Target, Wal-Mart, and all places capable of serving you food. Stay inside. Break out the Zombie Apocalypse rations and try again tomorrow.

They won't call it a ban. Yet not only has my book been moved, but now elementary schoolers must request a copy from a specialist at its new site AND then also PROVE their reading level before seeing a copy. All these hurdles for a young reader just to access a poem in history written for them. @MDCPS , history is not ours to hoard from children. History has always been theirs to make. And the more they're empowered to know our yesterdays, the more prepared they will be to lead us into tomorrow.
It's not a ban, they said. It just on another shelf, they said. But the truth about the ban on @TheAmandaGorman's book—as is often the case with book banners—was something quite different: An elaborate—& daunting—process for elementary school children simply to access a poem.

Some very good news. So grateful I won the scholarship last year. I may or may not be quoted in the news release.
I am so honored to share that Highlights Foundation has established the Renée Watson Cottage on its campus. I hope this space provides inspiration for all who need quality time to write & produce work. @HighlightsFound @bloomsburykids #ReneeWatsonCottage highlightsfoundation.org/202…
