ATTACK OF THE GHOULS! 🔥 SINBAD AND THE EYE OF THE TIGER (1977) Early in the film, as Sinbad (Patrick Wayne) and his jolly adventurers are minding their own business - devouring spit-roasted boar while flirting with alluring belly dancers - the sorceress Zenobia arrives and conjures a trio of ghouls from the fire to attack the men.   Don't you hate it when that happens? The bulbous-eyed demon ghouls are pure Ray Harryhausen, who both produced the film and handled all stop-motion animation.  The battle is notable for its convincing, energetic staging between the animated creatures and the live action performers.   It's a kinetic, confident opener that plays to the legendary animator's strengths. The sequence inevitably recalls the skeleton warriors of Jason and the Argonauts, with the ghouls often viewed as a variation on one of Harryhausen's most famous creations. Sinbad ultimately dispatches the creatures by crushing them under a pile of logs. Now let's get back to the belly-dancing, 🧠 Professor Jakob von Blackstone ☢️ Doctor Viktor von Blackstone PS - WANT MORE?  Become a paid MFC member for bonus content, including more images from this scene!  We are offering a flash sale for the next 5 fans to unlock access to subscribers-only perks by becoming paid subscribers.    The flash sale is 50% off - Only $2.49 for your first month! 🩸🕯️💀 Gore-geous Ghoul of the Day: MIA GOTH Few modern horror actresses have sliced up a screen presence quite like Mia Goth. She's got such a unique look - enormous, haunting eyes and a smile that always seems to know something we don't. Whether she's dancing through blood-soaked farm fields in X (2022), pursuing stardom with homicidal determination in Pearl (2022), or wandering through gothic madness in A Cure for Wellness (2016), Mia has a gift for making danger feel sexy. Mia plays women who look at the darkness, smile politely, and ask if there's room for one more at the table. Her performances feel like slow descents into madness. She isn't the girl running from the monster... she's the reason the monster is smiling. So, tonight, raise a glass of something red in honor of one of horror's most fascinating modern icons. Rogelio Gonzalez's sadistic black comedy is a cult classic and a fantastic entry in classic Mexican horror cinema. 💀 THE SKELETON OF MRS. MORALES (1960) [El Esqueleto de la Señora Morales] The story is about a husband who meticulously plans the death of his sadistic and manipulative wife. The tone is perfect, blending darkness with humor and creating an overall insane film with wonderful cinematography, gothic decor and a satisfying ending. Have you seen this movie? It's got great ratings on Letterboxd. We watched it a few years ago and enjoyed it. 🎬 BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1935) Elsa Lanchester was 32 years old when Bride of Frankenstein was filmed. She famously played a dual role: Mary Shelley in the prologue and the Bride herself. Despite her limited screen time — just a few minutes — her performance became one of cinema's most iconic images. Elsa later joked that Karloff was more disturbing offscreen than on. Elsa stepped away from horror after Bride of Frankenstein and built a respected career as a character actress in comedies and dramas. She earned a Golden Globe and two Oscar nominations, including one for Witness for the Prosecution. She later returned to horror in Willard (1971), about a boy with a murderous connection to rats! 🎉 Happy 81st Birthday to Adrienne Barbeau! (June 11, 1945) Adrienne has a great genre filmography. From her bone-chilling turn as The Fog radio DJ Stevie Wayne to surviving Escape from New York, battling a monstrous creature in Swamp Thing, and facing Stephen King's horrors in Creepshow, Adrienne was a fantastic '80s Scream Queen. She also lent her voice to the computer in Carpenter's The Thing, appeared in Two Evil Eyes, and has never stopped — racking up genre credits in The Convent, Tales of Halloween, Creepshow, and American Horror Stories. What a legend! Gore-geous Ghoul of the Day: TANYA ROBERTS  Tanya kicked off her scream queen credentials with Tourist Trap, a criminally underrated psycho-dollhouse creepfest where mannequins scream and people don’t ask nearly enough questions. Then came The Beastmaster, where she frolicked through the fantasy wilds in a leather bikini so iconic it should have been inducted into the Smithsonian. Giant bats, sword fights, and ferrets named Kodo and Podo - yet everyone just remembers Tanya in slow-motion.  And if that wasn’t enough blonde jungle goddess energy, she went full She-Woman in Sheena, riding a zebra and defying logic in heels made of animal bones.  In Charlie’s Angels, Tanya played Julie Rogers, the "streetwise" Angel who joined the team in the fifth and final season (1980–1981).  🧠️ Professor Jakob von Blackstone #TanyaRoberts #ScreamQueen #80sHorror #TouristTrap #TheBeastmaster #SheenaQueenOfTheJungle #SwordAndSorcery #WomenOfHorror #SciFi #DriveInMovies #BMovies #Pinups #PinupModel #PinUpGirls #CharliesAngels #MonsterFanClub

🦖 THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS (1953) A prehistoric behemoth terrorizes New York City! This was the first feature film where Ray Harryhausen served as the lead animator and visual effects creator. Previously, Harryhausen worked as an assistant to his mentor, Willis O'Brien, on Mighty Joe Young. O'Brien received the animation credit, though Harryhausen handled much of the actual animation work. It was essentially an apprenticeship under one of the masters of stop-motion filmmaking. With The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms: • Harryhausen worked as the sole animator and effects creator. • He operated independently, without O'Brien's supervision. • He had full creative control over the creature effects. • The film became a commercial and critical success, launching his legendary career. Afterward, Harryhausen would create some of the most iconic visual effects in fantasy and science fiction history: • It Came from Beneath the Sea (1955) • Earth vs. the Flying Saucers (1956) • The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958) • Jason and the Argonauts (1963) And many more! Without the success of The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, the golden age of Harryhausen stop-motion magic might never have happened. 🧠 Professor Jakob von Blackstone ☢️ Doctor Viktor von Blackstone ⚡ WANT EVEN MORE MONSTER KID CONTENT? ⚡ First 5 fans only — 50% off your first month! ⚡ Elsa Lanchester’s look in Bride of Frankenstein (1935) was defined by her iconic hair style.   It was designed by makeup artist Jack Pierce and contributed to her eerie, regal presence.  To the naked eye, the Bride appears to have black hair with white lightning streaks.   However, Lanchester's natural RED hair was pulled back over a wire cone and gray hair pieces were added to the sides.   It was heavily lacquered to maintain the shocking silhouette. [While a wig was designed for the role by Pierce and Josephine Turner, it wasn't used in the film. By some accounts it was used in promotional photos.] 🧠 - Professor Jakob von Blackstone #MonsterFanClub #UniversalMonsters #UniversalPictures #HorrorMovies #Frankenstein #BrideofFrankenstein

👙🌊 Gore-geous Ghoul of the Day: Erika Eleniak Follow: @officialerikaeleniak In the 1982 movie E.T., the Reese's Pieces gobbling alien gets drunk and syncs up telepathically with his little friend Elliot. Before you know it, the boy (surrounded by frogs and screaming children) steps onto the back of a fallen comrade to plant a kiss on the lips of the cutest girl in his class.  That 12-year-old maiden went on to become Shauni McClain - the bombshell lifeguard on the most popular show on TV at the time: Baywatch. But horror fans know Erika’s superstardom goes beyond her skin-tight swimsuits. She helped unleash one of the nastiest practical-effects creatures of the late 1980s in The Blob (1988) - a screaming, flesh-melting nightmare that turned small-town America into a buffet line.  Then she stepped into vampire carnage with Tales From the Crypt: Bordello of Blood (1996), a movie drenched in neon, blood and seduction. She also drifted into sci-fi horror territory with Dracula 3000 (2004). Yes, somewhere in deep space, Count Dracula finally discovered leather trench coats and pleasure bots. Outside horror, Erika built a surprisingly wide career with films like Under Siege (1992), Chasers (1994), and The Beverly Hillbillies (1993).  Sure, she was Playboy's Playmate of the Month (July 1989), but she also had that wholesome blonde-next-door energy that brought all the boys to the yard regardless of her genre roles. But even after years away from the spotlight, her fanbase never really disappeared. For a generation raised on cable television, video stores, late-night horror marathons, and Baywatch reruns, Erika Eleniak became one of those permanently recognizable faces of the late 80s and early 90s. And... she is reprising her role as Shauni in the upcoming Baywatch reboot! ☢️ Before Godzilla stomped Tokyo or the Blob slithered through Pennsylvania, giant ants almost destroyed the world! THEM! (1954)  🐜 America's first Big Bug cinematic nightmare! When six-legged horrors the size of trucks begin surfacing from the desert sands, suddenly America’s atomic age optimism collides with existential insectoid terror.  Directed with near-documentary precision by Gordon Douglas, THEM! blends noir, science fiction, and horror into one of the most influential creature features of the 1950s.  The film would inspire decades of atomic monster movies, but none quite capture the creeping dread — or the unforgettable shriek — of THEM! 🧠 - Professor Jakob von Blackstone #MonsterFanClub #ClassicSciFi #MonsterMovies #HorrorMovies #HorrorJunkie #ClassicHorror

💋📸 Gore-geous Ghoul of the Day: Bettie Page (1923-2008) The original “Queen of Pinups,” Bettie tromped through the pages of 1950s pulp magazines (often bound, blindfolded, and smiling) like a dark angel escaped from a B-movie dungeon. (Or, Viktor's lab... same difference.) Her collaborations with photographer Irving Klaw blurred the line between cheesecake and chains, influencing the aesthetic of everything from Vampira to The Munsters. To horror artists and fans, Bettie Page isn’t just an icon, she’s a totem that embodies the perfect paradox that horror adores: beauty wrapped in danger, sweet innocence hiding the devil inside.  Though she never starred in a monster flick, Bettie became the model for an entire generation of horror-adjacent femme fatales. Without Bettie, the modern horror siren - corseted, knowing, and dangerous - might never have existed. 🔥 Gore-geous Ghoul of the Day: ALI LARTER 🔥 Ali Larter has appeared in horror and sci-fi films since the late ’90s, and somehow she has only gotten hotter — aged like a premium Scotch in an oak barrel. She broke onto the scene with that unforgettable whipped cream bikini in Varsity Blues. She played Clear Rivers in Final Destination 1 and 2, outsmarting death itself like a badass goth Nancy Drew. Then she suited up for zombie-killing duty in the Resident Evil series as Claire Redfield, going toe-to-toe with undead freaks next to fellow siren Milla Jovovich. More recently she appeared in the "Dead and Breakfast" episode of Creepshow (2021). Bottom line — Ali’s the kind of genre queen who looks as good covered in blood and guts as she does in Reddi-wip topped with cherries. 🧠 Professor Jakob von Blackstone ☢️ Doctor Viktor von Blackstone #MonsterFanClub #AliLarter #FinalDestination #ResidentEvil #ClaireRedfield #Heroes #Creepshow #ScreamQueen #HorrorMovies #HorrorFans #HorrorCommunity #HorrorGram #ILoveHorror

Before Independence Day leveled Washington D.C., Ray Harryhausen did it with stop-motion animation all the way back in 1956! 🛸 EARTH VS. THE FLYING SAUCERS (1956) Ray's effects still hold up after nearly 70 years. In this movie, he steps away from mythological creatures and leans hard into UFO destruction and spectacle.  The flying saucers are not just Ed Wood models on strings. These have weight, momentum and power.   When they slam into the Capitol, the Washington Monument, and the city skyline, the shots feel violent and disruptive in a way 1950s audiences had never seen before. Harryhausen pioneered the illusion of scale here. The saucers interact directly with live-action environments using precision matte work and animation that feels tactile rather than ornamental.  What is your favorite scene from this movie? A Cautionary Tale of a Giant, Intergalactic Turkey-Buzzard-Monster That Descends from Space to Terrorize Earth! 🦃 THE GIANT CLAW (1957)  “It’s not of this Earth. It comes from some godforsaken antimatter galaxy!” The military throws everything at it: jets, artillery, and an avalanche of mid-century technobabble about “antimatter shields.” None of it works because the bird is protected by an impenetrable force field.   Just go with it.  This movie’s special effects budget could have been covered by the change in your couch cushions, but it still somehow manages to be more entertaining than half the blockbusters made today. But at least it's got the gorgeous Mara Corday for our hungry eyes to gobble up. “Relax, sweetheart. 🔥 It's Cheap. It's Cheesy. It's Absolutely Worth Your Time. 🧟‍♀️ FRANKENSTEIN'S DAUGHTER (1958) Oliver Frank — mad scientist, secret Frankenstein descendant — is running unauthorized experiments out of a suburban garage and eventually turns an unsuspecting teenage girl into a female monster, one of the first of its kind on screen. The backdrop is vintage 1950s: sock hops, hot rods, soda fountains, and wholesome teens who have no idea what's brewing next door. Underneath the camp, the film taps into real Cold War anxieties — unchecked science, shifting roles for women... the idea that normalcy itself could be corrupted. It's a real time capsule of 1950s psychology - combined with a fun story and goofy makeup effects. I don't care if it's "cheap". I enjoy it anyway! Jakob's favorite quote from the movie: "You’ve always treated me like a monster. Now you’re going to be one.” Viktor's favorite line: "Tonight you’ll be alive again, you vixen!” Honorable mention: "I didn’t like killing it.
