Piling On, Taking Sides, Calling it Abuse, and Intention Matters
The current pile-on against Jessica Machado by The Glarer, Broken Baker, and now Turtleboy has gotten completely out of hand. A group of men turning on one strong, opinionated woman in this space - who is brave enough to voice her opinion even when it’s unpopular - while preaching “free speech” and “due process” everywhere else is peak hypocrisy.
Grown men whining and demanding an apology they think someone is owed? Let’s be real - if anyone demanded an apology from them, they would tell them to f*ck off too. You know it and I know it.
Jess was doing a bit - joking, speculating, impersonating, exaggerating in that over-the-top way content creators do. Context and intent matter. She wasn’t launching a formal accusation. She was riffing.
And yes, “preying on” in casual slang doesn’t automatically equal “sexual predator.” That’s not how language works. (Attached screenshots break it down perfectly - humor, sarcasm, and lack of malice completely change the meaning.)
Hmmm… this isn’t the first time someone’s words and intentions have been twisted and used against them. Sound familiar, Turtleboy? How many times has the Commonwealth done exactly that to you?
Baker went on a drunken tirade spewing some of the vilest personal attacks I’ve seen, then started demanding an apology like a child. Jess isn’t apologizing, and she doesn’t need to.
And as far as Baker and J7 are concerned, I have no idea what happened, nor do I care because I have better things to do than pay attention to other people’s internet romances.
If J7 did harass him as he claims (and I’m not denying it may have happened), I really do have empathy for that. But harassment and abuse are not the same thing. As a survivor of abuse myself, I take serious offense when that word gets thrown around so casually.
Jess saying things on the internet about Baker that he doesn't like is nowhere near abuse. Until Jess starts to control when you can go to sleep at night, what you can wear, what you can eat, who you can talk to, and try to control every other aspect of your life, then we can talk about abuse. Okay? I lived that life. That's abuse. If you want more examples check out my coverage of the Menendez Brothers trials 1 & 2. What Jose and Kitty did to those boys, that's abuse. Let's not just throw that word around so lightly ffs. It actually means something to the REAL survivors of abuse!
The bigger issue, though, is the HYPOCRISY. Turtleboy is literally fighting the government right now because they decided his words and INTENT were enough to charge him with witness intimidation. They weaponized language and context against him. Now the same crew is doing it to Jess; deciding her intent for her, trying to “cancel” her, and piling on because she’s a woman who dares to have strong opinions in a space where the men get to swing freely.
It’s the same double standard we complain about in these true crime cases every day. Strong women get held to a different rulebook. I’m not here for the cancel mob - whether it comes from the government or from our own side/community. Jess deserves the same grace and free speech defense the guys demand for themselves.
