šµIT WAS DOA
šøMarathon is dead on arrival. Bungie & Sony tried to bank on most small niche genre due to Arc Raiders blowing up. I play extraction shooter games like Delta Force sometimes Arena Breakout. However Arc raiders blew up cuz it was casual friendly instead of hardcore extraction. Hingis got perfect recipe franchise to work on which is Destiny but like always Sony tried to chase life service and completely failed miserably.
šøMarathon is by far most boring extraction I ever played. It just doesnāt fit the genre at all. I donāt know how to explain it but something just feels off about that game. They should have green lit D3 and they wouldāve been in much better position as they are now. No one like not a single person asked for marathon.
šøSony or any these triple A studios just never learn from their past. Itās crazy to me How Sony is doubling down on Marathon when itās literally given free weekday and canāt even get more than 2k players. That says a lot. Imagine what could have happened if Arc Raiders did the same when itās prime time. I am pretty sure it will hit 1 mill players.
Sony & Bungie did it to themselves. I feel bad for people who will loose their job due to poor management at upper ups. Itās sad but this game wonāt survive that long.
Marathon is sitting at 13,663 players as of 4:00 PM PST.
That F2P week only brought in roughly 4,000ā5,000 new players over the last few days. If I were at Sony, Iād be making some phone calls on Friday; with an accountant on the line.
Bungie is in big trouble. This is the second week of a new season with brand-new content. Those numbers are unacceptable, especially given the massive production and server costs.
F2P isn't the answer.
Marathon clearly has a player retention problem.
No matter how good the combat and controls feel, if people arenāt logging back in, there wonāt be a game left to come back to.
