Greed is what's killing this country. People even get shocked when they see someone doing the right thing.
One time, I was sending work stuff to Katete using a bus. This guy asked me how much he should write on the receipt and I told him the exact amount I said I had, which I requested from our Accounts Office. He was so surprised as if it's not a normal thing to do.
You get a quote for an item or service valued at K15,000, then you go on to ask the supplier to make it K45,000 because you want to get a cut from the deal.
While all this is happening, there's a clinic in Muchinga that does not have maternity health services. There's a school in Kaoma where children are sitting on bricks to learn. And yet, that extra K30,000 could make a difference.
Greed will run this country down. And no, I'm not talking about the previous regime only. Even in the current administration, there are greedy people stealing public resources to enrich themselves. No moral conscience whatsoever, just vibes and theft.
