Sounds like my life too... #leasehold has fucked up millions of lives year on year! 😔 Putting on "the face" as I call it, has become a daily routine; everyone thinks you're fine and dandy but underneath you're dying inside little by little, every single day!! 😄
Ten minutes to get out, drive to meet the family and pretend everything is fine while I'm quietly falling apart.

This is why he’s been clinging on to power isn’t it? So I can impose digital ID on anyone over 16.

44% of homes listed for sale in the past 3 years never found a buyer, according to Zoopla. For BTL landlords, that's before you factor in S21 being gone — regaining possession to sell now takes 4 months if your tenant cooperates, 6–9 months if it goes to court. Fail to sell after gaining possession? You can't re-let for 12 months. #UKProperty #HousingMarket #btl

"The government shouldn’t really need a 73-page report in the current environment to realise that (...) even the sector’s much-coveted shared ownership model is ā€œnot a long-term affordable option for many of the buyers to whom it is marketedā€."
My look back at the week: Will the government wake up to the fact that ā€˜so-called affordable housing’ is beyond many people’s reach? insidehousing.co.uk/insight/…

A national paper is asking me for home sellers who'd would be willing to share their story of agents overvaluing their home, and how it's hit life plans. I would urge you to come forward because unless you do, this will keep happening to others. DM me your story, contact info.

Cheaper freehold purchase is in the 2024 Act, but Labour are dragging their feet and not commencing the policies! We need them to go further in the Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Bill with a restriction on development value and further liberalisation of the qualifying criteria.

People in those flats are in desperate situation. Real estate firms on verge of bankruptcy, developers paused building and can’t sell, lenders refuse o finance homes with more than 1% service charge. And what does the government doing ? Stalling in silence! Shame!
Starmer’s successor has a tiny window to impress the country. They inherit a watered-down and discredited Leasehold and Commonhold Reform Bill. Fix it, and @AndyBurnhamGM @wesstreeting get a popular, low-cost, anti-rentier, pro-growth agenda. Bond markets will be fine too.

Our service charge on a shared ownership flat went from £1,600 pa to £6,000 pa in just 5 years. It's like a second mortgage now. It also means the flat is unmortgageable.
Shared Ownership is marketed as affordable housing. What's not mentioned in the marketing: Rent on the unsold equity escalates every year (can easily double over 15 years). Service charges compound hard — up 55% nationally, 64% in London in a decade. You’re still liable for 100% of repairs on a home you only part-own. Thread coming... #housingcrisis #ukproperty #affordablehousing

Leasehold is looting people and blocking growth. @AndyBurnhamGM @wesstreeting, take on middlemen and extortionists. Reverse @Keir_Starmer’s betrayal of leaseholders. Overhaul his weak, lobbyist-friendly Bill. Honour the manifesto. End leasehold for good. We’ll cheer you on.

Harry on fire as always !
Starmer betrayed his manifesto promise. He may be on the way out, but he is still giving ā€œpunishment beatingsā€ to leaseholders. His Bill will trash the value of our homes and protect the service charge racket for Big Freehold and rent-seeking lawyers. With Matthew Wright šŸ‘‡

The leasehold tsunami is about to hit. And the government doesn’t care. Starmer’s successor needs to grip this.
.@Keir_Starmer tinkers with the scam he promised to end. Leaseholders are trapped in negative equity, unable to remortgage or sell, hit with junk fees called ā€œservice chargesā€. A financial and human scandal. Next PM: lobbyists or leaseholders? We spoke to Matthew Wright šŸ‘‡

Not easy pushing a pro-people, anti-rentier agenda. Especially in a generally closed media environment where powerful interests don’t like it. Leasehold is not the well-trodden ground of immigration, welfare or anti-woke politics. But we are doing it. freeleaseholders.org.uk/join

Starmer and his ilk LOVE incrementalism. They talk big while hoping voters don’t notice the policies are pathetically small. On ending leasehold, a manifesto promise, vested interests and weird legalism were put ahead of democracy. An obvious target for Burnham and Streeting.

Service charges are ruining lives and fuelling the housing crisis. Starmer’s answer? Scrap the promised Law Commission reforms that would put homeowners in control of service charges, while protecting money-for-nothing ground rents until 2068. Painful. thetimes.com/uk/politics/art…

We're mid-rise, and already above 2%. As values continue to tank, I reckon we'll reach 3% soon. Could mortgage peeps write to big wigs at @mhclg? They don't seem to get it.
