Economic growth should ultimately be measured by the quality of life of ordinary citizens. If millions remain unemployed, food insecure, dependent on firewood, and unable to access decent housing despite decades of growth, then it is fair to ask who is truly benefiting from that growth. Development is not only about GDP figures and infrastructure; it is also about jobs, incomes, healthcare, education and dignity for the average Ugandan.

As a journalist, I have had to listen to boring Museveni speeches for 13 years, and as an MP for 15 years and because I am invited on TVs and radios, this burden is not about to go away.
