Today’s
#KUCancerFighter dedication celebrates the life of 1995 KU graduate, John Bowman, who passed away earlier this month after a 2.5 year battle with Glioblastoma brain cancer.
John was just 51 when he passed but lived his life to the fullest, growing up in Salina, KS where he attended Salina South. He then followed his brother Aaron to KU where he excelled in the School of Engineering and loved watching his Jayhawks in The Phog, especially his all-time favorite ‘Hawk - Jacque Vaughn.
After graduation, John went on to become a very successful petrochemical engineer for more than 25 years, mostly in Baton Rouge. He raised 3 kids - a daughter, Natalie and two sons, Drew & Jack. Being down on the Bayou, John got to host his Kansas buddies for the Final Fours in 2003, 2012 and 2022 — some of the happiest memories of their lives. Those same friends are watching the Big Dance with heavy hearts this month but are reflecting fondly on the great times they got to share with their buddy John, especially over Kansas Basketball.
Tonight’s call is for John, his family and that KU Hoops friend group he cherished so much. Rock Chalk forever, John. 💙❤️
