I spent years fighting to get my department class sets of calculators at my old district. I am so excited to finally have access to a true class set and be able to do full lessons with them.

Hearing my superintendent say we must go beyond the Staar and provide students engagement opportunities and pathways outside of Staar makes my heart happy.

I had a charter admin reprimand teachers for wearing the same shirt. 1 reason was it was like a ā€œgang or worse a unionā€ both he claimed were illegal in Tx. As a rep for the teachers I clarified that unions are legal. Today I joined the union for my new district 🫶 @northside_aft

It’s been a while but excited for my journey back into high school.

I have heard a lot of teachers making fun of buzz words like ā€œit’s all about the relationshipsā€ and ā€œgrowth mindsetā€, but at the end of the day quality instruction needs both of those included #Elementaryschool
Things I never thought I’d have to say, ā€œPlease never lick me again.ā€ Who: 1st grader Where: My stomach Why: ??? #elementary #iteach #teacherproblems

Best part of virtual teaching is the pets. One kid regularly has a gecko on his head. Another has his cat in his lap the whole time. Dogs come and go. Another likes to show off her bird.

Today's tip of the day: Do not say "cancel" when you really mean "creates a zero pair" or "simplifies to 1."

I had a 2nd grade student walk me through this. I recorded her thought process. Other than a couple small nudges, this was all her. She says she isn’t good at math but when she realized this was her verbal work she was so excited. #MTBoS #iteachmath #elemmathchat

Without a doubt the last 6 months have been the most exhausting decade of teaching. The last couple though seeing I can truly make a difference has been worth it. #iteachmath

If 2020 happened my first year of teaching I really don’t know if I would have continued teaching. I really hope schools are giving new teachers the support they need and letting them know it gets better. #iteach

One of the best parts working with 1st grade math is that these kids are FEARLESS. They don’t mind mistakes and are cool working through them without shrugging. Getting participation is way easier than 9-12. #iteachmath

Take chances! I took a chance on a school that wants to break the mold. So much so that I changed grade levels to teach there and enrolled my son there. We are one week in and I wouldn’t have it any other way. He’s happy to be at school even virtually and I love my team.

Exhausting but worth it. I am blown away by my new school family. This is a huge shift in how things are done but I look forward to what we accomplish.

Cute is outside my comfort zone, but outside my math classes I have to teach a morning homeroom so this felt like an appropriate way to organize the schedule. Video and book both link to the items. #elemchat #BitmojiClassroom

First day of work and I got notice that Texas officially issued my teaching credential *wohoo* One last step to get the next level of credential. If anyone is looking, the hardest part of transferring a CA teacher credential is getting physical copies of your CSET scores.

Back to school today. Excited to work with my @PromesaAcademy team to make our amazing vision come to life. This math will be totally different than my experience in elementary school and I am so ready for it!

Confession: I have always been a paper and pencil math person because I can’t keep my thoughts organized. With approaches I’ve learned for instruction the summer I was able to mentally add 3 four digit numbers. It may sound simple, but it’s a whole shift in how my brain worked.
