I’m so grateful to have visited him at his home in Arizona just last fall for this feature. Condolences to his wife Linda, daughter Kristy, son Chuck and all their families. 🙏

As a kid I listened to Foster Hewitt and dreamed one day I could be that voice calling games. To be named a Foster Hewitt Award winner is the honour of a lifetime. Overwhelmed to be joining so many of my heroes and esteemed colleagues. Grateful to all who’ve helped along the way.

This one hits hard. I had the absolute pleasure of knowing Cheech and working with him over the years at Sportsnet. One of the funniest and most unique people I’ve ever met. He always kept us laughing. My heart goes out to his wife Sharon and his entire family. 🙏

ALT It is with profound sadness we share the news of the sudden passing of John Garrett, a beloved colleague, friend, and one of the most familiar voices in Canadian hockey. “Cheech” was a legend. His warmth, humour, and genuine love for the game endeared him to fans and colleagues alike. He brought insight, authenticity, and heart to every broadcast. He will be remembered not only for his remarkable career, but for the kindness and joy he shared with everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. John will be missed immensely. Our deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones.
