Costs up. Services disappearing. Upcounty is still waiting. After 18 years of the same leadership—enough. I’m running for Maryland State Senate in District 39 to lower costs, deliver real resources, and bring bold leadership to Annapolis. It’s time.

In the wake of the #SCOTUS decision, Maryland has a chance to rebalance our democracy AND strengthen Black political power. Maryland’s redistricting bill died in the Senate on Senate Majority Leader Nancy King’s watch. Now, I’m running for the seat. shorturl.at/1heQf

And, I’ll add… if you’re an elected official in the Dem party, or you lead a civil rights org that solicits funding from the people: Organize. Mobilize. Or resign. No more politics as usual. Too much has been taken from us.
Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities - so long as they do it under the guise of “partisanship” rather than explicit “racial bias.” And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach. The good news is that such setbacks can be overcome. But that will only happen if citizens across the country who cherish our democratic ideals continue to mobilize and vote in record numbers - not just in the upcoming midterms or in high profile races, but in every election and every level.

Want to see what a real grassroots campaign looks like? Check out photos from our recent anti-poverty rally in Germantown. Residents from two CD-6 counties rallied in solidarity with the 33% of our families who are struggling to meet their basic needs. We’re ready for change!

ICYMI - I’m running for Congress in Maryland-D6, because our families are in crisis and it’s time for fresh leaders to step in and DO something about it. Thanks, again, @LokayFOX5 for having me on The Final 5. Full interview: youtu.be/OOI_g9wfZtI?si=ARKo…

This ruling hits too close to home. I’ve had multiple emergency abortions to terminate ectopic pregnancies. Had ER doctors turned me away, my fallopian tubes would’ve fully ruptured…leaving me to die a cruel, untimely death and my then 2 yr old daughter to grow up w/out her mom.
NEW: 5th Circuit sides with Texas, says Biden admin overstepped in telling hospitals they were obligated to perform life-saving abortions under the federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act. Background: texastribune.org/2023/11/07/… Ruling: storage.courtlistener.com/re…

I believe healthcare is a human right! This is one of the main reasons I’m running for Congress in Maryland’s 6th district.

What better way to end “Public Service Recognition Week” than by joining my neighbors in packing groceries for families struggling with food insecurity in our community. As a working mom, I know firsthand how difficult it can be to make ends meet.

With rising #inflation rates, groceries and other household goods are now more expensive. Many families in Maryland are going to bed hungry. Some are also reallocating money from their rent budget to put towards groceries and are now facing both housing and food instability.

Today, I’m thrilled to have worked alongside dedicated community servants, to prepare enough boxes to feed 180 families in Western Maryland. Still, more can and MUST be done to #endhunger. We can start by supporting local organizations that are doing the work every single day.

No mother should die due to pregnancy-related complications…especially not here in the US. We’re supposed to be better than this. #blackmaternalhealth #reproductivejustice #momsdeservebetter
In the U.S., the richest mothers and their newborns are the most likely to survive the year after childbirth — except when the family is Black. The richest Black mothers and their babies are 2x as likely to die as the richest white mothers & their babies. nytimes.com/interactive/2023…

Sadness can live behind a beautiful smile and within a hearty laugh. If a friend smiles and laughs with you but says they’re hurting/depressed/hopeless, believe their WORDS. Don’t leave them to “get over it” alone. Show love & support (heavy on the love). #CheslieKryst

Happy anniversary, Miche! Over the past 29 years, I've loved watching the world get to know you not just as a daughter of the South Side, but as a mother, lawyer, executive, author, First Lady, and my best friend. I can’t imagine life without you.

I will always treasure the time I spent serving as one of Congressman Hastings’ policy advisors. My heart is filled with gratitude for the wisdom and guidance he generously gave to me. I will keep working “the plan.” 👊🏾 Rest In Peace, boss! #teamhastings

As a woman of faith, I know that no matter how hard I pray, prayer alone will NOT prevent future acts of violence just as it hasn’t resolved other social ills. Scripture says “a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.” Lip service won’t cut it!#PolicyWork is required!
