Itās been a busy and productive week! Weāve been learning how to write the GIST of selected texts, and students proudly shared their narrative writing. In Social Studies, groups collaborated to create their own political parties and develop party platforms. #StudentVoice #Grade5

Ss had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of autism. Ms. S. shared imp. facts and led a simulation activity to help Ss better understand the kinds of supports some individuals may need. It was a meaningful experience that encouraged empathy, awareness, and inclusion.

Today we sorted roles and responsibilities across different ālevelsā in a school community: principals, divisional teachers, and classroom teachers. This helps students see why jobs are distributed and makes it easier to connect to how different levels of government work. #civics

Students continued their work on revising their narratives today. They had two tasks: add a simile or metaphor, and include 2 vocabulary words that we studied this year. When we come back from the break, they will be ready to publish. š

Ss are in the revision phase of their narratives. They were instructed to choose a part of their story that could use more descriptive details. Using the organizer from our descriptive paragraph unit, they used AI to generate rich words (adjectives, adverbs, verbs, and nouns).

Today we launched our Social Studies unit by reading āThe Compositionā and discussing the characteristics of a dictatorship. It's a powerful way for students to begin thinking about the rights and freedoms we enjoy in a democracy.

Using anchor charts, Ss brainstormed adjectives, adverbs, and strong verbs for a picture prompt (descriptive writing unit). Once they brainstormed 3 words each, they used the computer to get more specific, descriptive words. Looking forward to seeing their initial paragraphs!

Yesterday, we worked on our partner reading to improve fluency. Ss also had an opportunity to present their science projects (inside/outside circle). Finally, they learned about stacked bar graphs in math.

In preparation for our partner reading/repeating reading fluency practice, we read Wolf! to discuss the qualities of a good reader. Ss were extremely perceptive about the journey Wolf made to become a proficient reader. They also noticed the support he received to reach his goal.
