Bingo!! This is one prime example I have been looking for.
When we say some of these people only like Yorubaland, only if it favours them, they say it is too do.
Before 2015, a campaign of religion in politics which had never ever existed was raised about Lagos having continuous Muslim Governors. And that it was time for a Christian Governor in Lagos.
Venerable Folarin Shobo of the Lagos Anglican Diocese asked Christians to vote for a Christian Candidate in Lagos in 2015.
The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria led by Apostle Alex Bamgbala called for a Christian Governor after exit of Babatunde Fashola in 2015.
They released a statement. "The Church and Governance in Lagos State".
The Coalition of Christian Organisations, led by Archbishop Magnus Atilade among others also publicly called for a Christian Governor in Lagos.
Another Prominent group clamouring for a Christian Governor was the Christian Conscience Group.
People like Professor Yemi Osinbajo, (then former Commissioner for Justice), Enoch Ajiboso, (Former Commissioner for Agriculture and Cooperatives), Dele Shobowale (Vanguard Columnist) and ArchBishop of Methodist Diocese, Most Reverend Joseph Ajayi.
They had their first meeting at Christ The Light Chapel, ALAUSA, IKEJA on September 27th 2013.
These people didn't consider shared Yoruba heritage or ancestry. Or that even in 50's,60's, there was an overwhelming majority of Yoruba political leaders being Christian. Even though, it wasn't reflective of religious demographics.
Even in the 1979 election, Obafemi Awolowo for example, floated an all-Christian ticket, in national elections and Muslims voted for it without any issues.
These ones didn't care for those nuances, but their own religious bent.
They introduced religious politics to be Governor and stuck at it.
It's 2026, the same APC, has again after 12 years of Akinwumi Ambode and Babajide Sanwoolu, both Christians, now may pick an Hamzat, and this dude is again trying to play the religious card.
It is why I take these "Yoruba Nation" or "ThinkYorubaFirst" organisations with a pinch of salt.
They are religious activists masquerading as Ethnic pressure groups.
Let the candidate emerge to be Muslim, and you will start seeing sneering and subtle takes.
They want Yorubaland quite alright. But they don't want one with Tolerance and Mutual Respect.
They want Dominance! If that is not on the table, they throw spanner in the works.
I want our party to keep in mind that the outcome of the general election will not be decided solely by party members; citizens will also play a role in this process.
@AkinwunmiAmbode continues to be the most preferred candidate for Lagos State. President
@officialABAT, sir. What am hearing is that another Muslim ticket. We shouldn't jeopardize our opportunity we should learn from 2023. Peace.
