🚨🚨 Interested in ⬆️ mechanical properties of tendons? 🚨🚨 Please see below for a 🧵 on why strain magnitude is an important factor based off my recent review journals.lww.com/nsca-jscr/A…

Some have both 😉
The tension is real in S&C/performance: one side has the letters, the citations, the meta-analyses, and the institutional power; the other side has the calluses, the repeated failures that teach what actually transfers, and the direct feedback loop of “did the athlete get faster/stronger/more robust or not?”

Interesting new study on BFR vs High intensity 🏋‍♂️ on muscle-tendon complex adaptations in 👴 High intensity 🏋‍♂️ led to sig ⬆️ tendon stiffness and strength than BFR, with similar tendon CSA increases in both conditions. #tendon #strength #adaptation

Pleasure to contribute a 2nd expert article to @SportsmithHQ - this time on muscle hypertrophy 💪🏋‍♀️ Ive been using partial ROM training for >15yrs. Believe me, if you think theyre about 'the stretch' or dividing ROMs randomly in half ... this is ❌️ 'real' partial ROM 🏋‍♀️

Instead of a eulogy I want this quoted when I die. It’s almost poetic!
The usual 'match day prep' we've seen develop over the years. Lots of tippy toes into a dramatic lunge. Towels wrapped around D-handles for cable rows? Why? Im never been sure what exactly all this is 'prepping' for? @SimonBrundish linkedin.com/posts/samuelwoo…

This pre-print of a paper caused quite a stir recently on social media. The authors suggest that 9 vs 36 fractional sets of 🏋‍♂️ produce equivalent hypertrophy 💪 However... how confident are we of these findings, particularly in relation to measures?... 1/

there's a lot to unpack in the paper but I gave my thoughts on this on a recent post on Instagram of anyone would like to check those out instagram.com/reel/DXMLjwbjj…

Light aerobic training, done with proper sequencing and progressions, helps preserve and support power. Focusing on bad programs that do too much of a good thing is just a bad argument. Countless programs scoff at aerobic work to befriend athletes. We need to be honest here.

Adaptations in biceps femoris long-head muscle-tendon mechanics during the Nordic hamstring exercise in response to 9 weeks of training 🏋‍♂️ led to.. - ⬆️ torque at longer MTU lengths - BfLh fascicles operate at ⬆️ lengths - ↔️ active sarcomere lengths sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

Spent ~20yrs researching 🏋‍♂️ for muscle hypertrophy. PhD & UG students researching it but none of us told @Schwarzenegger who inspired us is getting an hon PhD in our uni today 😔. Biggest legend in bodybuilding history. Arnie if you're interested in our work let me know 😄😉

Stiffness & Running Performance What i like about this... it explores how we move from stiffness at the tissue level to the limb level. This is so important to distinguish between what they mean for Performance and how we can manipulate them link.springer.com/article/10…

Slightly more nuanced than this. ~12-14yrs don’t simply have “lower neural drive” across the board. Rather, they usually hav a reduced ceiling of voluntary activation & impaired hi thrshold MUs, often compensating at submax intensities thru ⬆️ firing rates of low-threshold MUs..

Net effect = system that is biased toward low-force, fatigue-resistant output, but a bit more limited in producing high force / rapid contractions. At 15-18 theres a bit of a transition towards adult-like function. VA ⬆️ showing access the motor unit pool is mostly established..

But subtle differences remain in how that pool is utilised—particularly in the recruitment and rate coding of high-threshold MUs suggesting that the limitation is no longer one of capacity, but more coordination and optimisation under high-force conditions.
