This made the museum more welcoming to those who might not have the funds to eat at the cafe and sent a message that the museum is for everybody.

The Museum is providing all the data away for free with no restrictions. Turku 1927 could run hackathons but they wanted everyone to get involved.

Originally they worked with Turku Uni of Applied Sciences about how the information they had could be turned into a 'technology thing' but they didn't know what 'it' was. Zoan won the tender and other experts it has been a smooth project.
The lasts few years they have improved their online resources for teachers and students. 200 educational resources are available so filtering via materials, age group or topic has made a difference.

When the pandemic hit in February and March @UKNatArchives were already with online resources which had their social media grow by 1/3 and reached outside their normal demographic.

The staff portal is has a lot more of access and variety. It uses all the data. Using DAMs and metadata allows how they filter to be much more on point.

Does the public really need the detail and formal museum information? Generally not hence the need for a second portal geared more to the public. There isn't has as much information on the DAMs.
Why are they talking about collection digitisation and data use? The digital collection reached 5 million specimens in Jan 2022. Between Feb 2015 & May 2022, 32.38BM records were downloaded.

The value of research enabled by digitisation of the collection has shown it has created in excess of £2 billion.
