Take away from a tax policy perspective:
1️⃣ Reduction in the threshold for PAYE, for Ugandans earning below UGX 335,000 have additional disposable income to take home.
2️⃣ We still have an income tax exemption for new businesses which started last financial; 3 years of not paying income tax.
3️⃣ Made easy the financial institutions i.e Microfinance area when it comes to taking reductions in respect to bad debts to inform the cost of credit.
4️⃣ Value Added Tax (VAT) threshold has been changed from 150m to 300m that reduces the cost of compliance.
5️⃣ Government has removed withholding VAT from businesses that use EFRIS to give more cashflow to the business and operate much better.
6️⃣ Waiver of penalty & interest has been extended provided you pay principal tax due 30th June 2025.
