Today marks 128 years of Kurdish journalism. The first Kurdish newspaper, Kurdistan, was published in Cairo in 1898 by Mikdad Midhat Bedirkhan aiming to preserve the Kurdish language worldwide. Every year on April 22, Kurdish Journalism Day is celebrated across the globe.

Despite Syrian Presidential Decree No. 13, which formally allows stateless Kurdish citizens to obtain Syrian citizenship, applicants are still required to register as Arab rather than Kurdish when completing the paperwork.

President Nechirvan Barzani told Kurdish media that the attack on his residence in Duhok is not a personal matter adding that it is a dangerous escalation for Iraq in general. Meanwhile many political leaders in the region condemned the attack.
