I joined Mr. Chaloka Beyani, Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide, for a meeting with Hon. Nelly Mutti, Speaker of the National Assembly. We discussed the vital role of parliamentarians in advancing information integrity and look forward to our continued collaboration.

Today I met with H.E. Mr. Mikami Akiteru, Ambassador of Japan to Zambia. Discussed key issues, including UN support to the Government and preparation of the 9NDP. Also exchanged views on challenges facing UN amid the global economic & political environment, incl declining ODA.

My week included welcoming the Australian Ambassador to Zambia H.E. Minoli Perera. Discussed collaboration, multilateral support and human rights. Reaffirmed UN’s role in Zambia’s electoral processes and commitment to inclusive governance.

A defining moment for Zambia’s economic journey! Pleased to accompany @UNCTAD SG @RGrynspan, Commerce Minister @MulengaChipoka and Amb of Japan at launch of assessment on value addition and diversification in Zambia. Huge potential to unlock new economic opportunities and jobs.

“This morning we held a bilateral meeting with UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) secretary general Her Excellency Ms Rebeca Grynspan at State House, where we cordially shared a variety of views. Zambia’s partnership with the UNCTAD remains unblemished and we want it to be more rationalised and consolidated so that it can deliver clearer economic outcomes for the benefit of our people. Aside expressing our gratitude to UNCTAD for supporting Zambia during the debt restructuring period, we also thanked this inter-governmental organisation of the United Nations (UN) secretariat for the support it is rendering to our country to promote e-commerce, through the Automated System for Customs Data (ASYCUDA) initiative. E-commerce must take root in our country as it cuts out numerous vices which hamper convenient trade.
