“Air pollution fell substantially as Paris restricted car traffic and made way for parks, people-streets and bike-lanes.” Better for the climate, better for health, better for livability and quality of life. Common sense. Such a no-brainer, it’s remarkable that more cities HAVEN’T done the same. washingtonpost.com/climate-s…

People dismiss Europe's walkability saying "well, London & Paris were never as car crazy as the US." Truth is, they were just as car-centric as us. But they decided to make their cities for people, not cars
Removing cars from cities is always controversial, but once you're brave enough to do it and witness the improvements, nobody ever looks back.

“A city’s creativity doesn’t depend on cars. That’s the 20th century. We’re in the 21st.”— Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo. No matter what happens in the Paris election, the world’s cities owe Mayor Hidalgo a huge debt of gratitude. The boldest, most inspiring mayor I’ve seen. ft.com/content/8fbad76c-6705…

After 12 years under Mayor Anne Hidalgo, it's pretty clear that "the bike beat the car in Paris." From 2002 to 2023, car traffic fell by more than half, dedicated cycle lanes expanded sixfold, and today, bike trips outnumber car trips by more than 2 to 1 in the city.
