Some personal news:
Excited to have finished my first week at my new home in Darwin with the ABC as a reporter. Even more excited for the adventures in and incredible stories here. Not a bad view just a few minutes walk from my place either 😎
Three things that emerged before the Roosters or Spencer Leniu apologised.
1. Leniu said he had “nothing” to worry about described the on-field incident as fun and games.
2. Trent Robinson suggested “Just because he (Ezra Mam) was adamant, doesn’t mean he is right.”
3. Footage showing Billy Walter’s reacting to the incident and it becoming clear he would be able to give evidence regarding what Leniu now admits he said. You’d hope the NRL judiciary takes all three into account when sentencing Leniu and the timing of this guilty plea.
And here it is. Eva Lawler to be the next Chief Minister. a rank and file vote avoided. Left faction’s Chansey Paech to be deputy. I understand from multiple sources he did this without the left unions blessing. That may have annoyed a few to say the least. #NTPol
Late last night Eva Lawler had the majority of support, only three MLA’s had held off backing her. Nicole Manison being one of them. What’s interesting (in my opinion) is that Manison twice now has struggles to get her own faction on board when going for the leadership. #NTPol
If she missed out again I wouldn’t be surprised if she left cabinet. The usual caveats apply, much can change. The factional left/right divide is now 6 each and two MLA’s are unaligned. So no faction dominates the vote. Lawler ticket I understand is her with Paech. #NTPol
#NTPols Following the expected resignation of CM Natasha Fyles. I’m Hearing Joel Bowden will have a tilt to be next leader of NT. Caucus is meeting now. It would be fairly extraordinary given the former AFL and Richmond Tigers defender only joined cabinet a few months ago.
Other potential candidate and (predicted) front runner Nicole Manison still in Bali and due back tomorrow, I’ve been in told. Formal vote (if it is needed will take place on Thursday). As always politics is a moveable feast this could all change.
For some reason @abcsport stream won’t work in Japan, yet other stations working just fine. Gutted I can’t hear the sultry tones of Jim Maxwell to begin the summer of cricket :(
Really honoured to pick up the sport and radio awards last night at the NT Media Awards. Major thanks to the crew at Hack and ABC News who allowed me to take time to work on some of these stories. I have since cut the mullet for all those concerned (my mum)
Feel really lucky to be nominated in the upcoming NT Media Awards for Young Journalist of the year. Such a great range of work across all the categories from many wonderful journalists!
Some significant developments this morning regarding protections for koalas' south-west of Sydney.
