We are putting on our finest vest to celebrate the 90th birthday of legendary flight director, Gene Kranz 🎂 Starting @NASA in 1960 with Project Mercury and continuing through the shuttle era, Kranz is best known for his leadership in Mission Control during the Apollo 13 mission. The determination and can-do spirit displayed by Kranz still inspires teams of @NASAFltDirector today.

We are excited to announce that Emily Nelson, callsign Peridot Flight, has been named the new Chief Flight Director for @NASA! Congratulation, Emily, and thank you for your leadership! Emily was born in Okinawa, Japan 🇯🇵; raised in Austin, TX; and earned her bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from UTAustin🤘 She came to @NASA_Johnson right after college, working as a flight controller for the @Space_Station before becoming a Flight Director. Emily exemplifies the values of our Flight Director Office. She is a a great leader who balances her own impressive leadership and technical expertise with a firm trust in the excellency of our team and our international partners. She invests in her team and works to make each member of our @NASA family better! Congratulations again, Emily!
