(5/9)A well-resourced family complained about some of our Ss picking on her kid. I went in to observe and this S was yelling at the Ss that were “picking on her.” Without my consent, the admin told the well-resourced parent I would put the others in group

(6/9)As much as I wanted to start groups, this was not an appropriate or ethical way to vet Ss for group. I tried to explain and was told I needed to do it because the other parent was vocal in the community.

First, I wonder why this authenticity comes as a surprise to so many Ss? The answer, to me, involves Freire’s banking concept of education. We are acting as the all-knowing experts and that Ss SHOULD act within the power structures and should passively absorb info.

Another part of me reminds me of Bravo and reality TV. In academia we create this “fourth wall” where student don’t get to see the behind the scenes. But what does that do for their access to doctorate degrees? And if they are doc Ss, why can’t they be allowed behind the 4th wall

This is just evidence that his violent acts were both racist and misogynistic. They aren’t mutually exclusive. There is a long history of sexual stereotypes in racist ideologies. Let’s not divorce ourselves from this sad reality with thinking like this as facts are gathered.
