“Freedom of speech!” says the venture capitalist, who is completely bankrolled by countries where there is no free speech at all.
“Freedom of speech!” says the businessman, who made sure that non-disclosure and non-disparagement agreements won’t ever reveal anything incriminating about any of his activities.
“Freedom of speech!” says the accountant, who makes his money negotiating confidential deals and advising clients to store their money in secret offshore tax havens.
“Freedom of speech!” says the banker who knows that bank secrecy will protect him from any wrongdoing.
“Freedom of speech!” says the migrant who arrived from a country with no free speech at all that he still supports and doesn’t dare to criticize.
“Freedom of speech!” says the religious fanatic, who doesn’t allow any criticism on his religion, even though the right to practice it is based on the exact same First Amendment.
“Freedom of speech!” says the criminal who threatened eyewitnesses and accomplices with murder if they testify about his illegal and illicit activities which were possible because of the freedoms that he was allowed.
“Freedom of speech!” says the terrorist whose harmful actions were possible because of the freedom that he was granted, thereby undermining the very foundation of freedom itself.
“Freedom of speech!” says the dictator who has killed every opposition member that posed a threat to him.
“Freedom of speech!” says the government that has classified every document that really matters.
The meta-patterns of power & pretense are generally very predictable & universal.
