#NationalPanchayatiRajDay, observed on 24 April 2026, highlights the transformative role of grassroots governance in advancing
#women’s political and social empowerment across Grameen Bharat. Panchayati Raj Institutions have emerged as powerful platforms where women are not only participating but also leading change, shaping local development agendas, and strengthening inclusive democracy.
Encouragingly,
#women are increasingly winning both reserved and unreserved seats in Panchayats across several states, reflecting growing confidence, leadership capability, and acceptance within communities. Their active involvement has contributed to more responsive governance, with greater attention to issues such as health, education, sanitation, and social welfare.
The Ministry of Panchayati Raj’s initiatives, such as the
#SashaktPanchayatNetriAbhiyan, are playing a vital role in building the capacities of elected women representatives, enabling them to lead effectively and make informed decisions. Additionally, the concept of Model Women-Friendly Gram Panchayats is fostering safe, inclusive, and gender-responsive local governance ecosystems.
With continued emphasis on digital empowerment, transparency, and community participation, Panchayats are becoming more accessible and citizen-centric. Strengthening women’s leadership at the grassroots is not only advancing gender equality but also accelerating holistic rural development. On this occasion, Panchayati Raj Institutions are encouraged to further nurture women-led governance as a cornerstone of a progressive and inclusive ‘Viksit Bharat’.
