A new study highlights how food insecurity and disease related malnutrition are often shaped by the same underlying social and economic challenges. The authors argue that improving nutrition outcomes requires more than food support alone. It also means addressing the wider factors that affect people's ability to access and afford nutritious food. 📖 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲: bit.ly/4oxpTXR #FoodInsecurity #Malnutrition #HealthEquity #PublicHealth #BMJNPH #NutritionScience

Traditional food systems can offer valuable insights into nutrition, sustainability, and cultural resilience. Our latest case study, Exploring Indigenous Dietary Practices and Baseline Nutrition Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices (KAP) in the Baiga Tribe of Central India, examines the dietary patterns of the Baiga community, a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group in Madhya Pradesh, India. The study found that traditional Baiga diets, centred around millets, pulses, forest-gathered leafy greens, and seasonal vegetables, were largely nutritionally adequate and aligned with sustainable food practices. However, important micronutrient gaps were identified, including vitamin D, vitamin B12, calcium, zinc, and vitamin E. The findings highlight the importance of preserving indigenous food knowledge while supporting culturally appropriate nutrition interventions developed in partnership with local communities, particularly women and young people. A new study found that daily consumption of 𝐉𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐬𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐠 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐬𝐞 was associated with improvements in markers linked to bone formation and modest increases in bone mineral density in older adults over 32 weeks. The findings suggest that simple dietary choices may help support bone health as we age, although further research is needed to confirm long term benefits. 📖 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲: bit.ly/4x5Rx2d #BoneHealth #HealthyAgeing #NutritionScience #HealthyBones #NutritionResearch #HealthyEating #PublicHealth #EvidenceBasedNutrition

Guava is naturally rich in vitamin C, which helps the body absorb iron more effectively. Guava juice may offer a low cost, food based way to support iron health in communities where anemia affects millions. 📖 Full study: bit.ly/4dStTgQ #Indonesia #Nutrition #Anemia #IronDeficiency #WomenHealth #Guava #VitaminC

MTK Conclave 2026 was successfully held yesterday at Amity University Kolkata, bringing together students, faculty, clinicians, public health professionals, and international collaborators for an engaging afternoon focused on the evolution of the Mobile Teaching Kitchen (MTK) initiative over the past decade. The event featured presentations on MTK adaptations across India, Mexico, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, alongside interactive discussions with students and faculty on community nutrition, implementation, and policy integration. Attendees also toured the MTK Van, interacted with MTK champions, sampled healthy preparations including the Mexican salad showcased during the session, and viewed poster presentations on community nutrition projects, with winning students recognised during the closing ceremony. @ProfSumantraRay concluded the session by synthesising key learnings from the global adaptations and outlining future collaborative activities with Amity University Kolkata, including upcoming Clinical Nutrition engagements planned for August 2026. #MTKConclave2026 #MobileTeachingKitchen #NNEdProIndia #PracticetoPolicy

The NNEdPro India team over the past week, had the wonderful opportunity to visit the Little Literacy Library initiative as it celebrated its 5th Anniversary at RG Kar & Chetla. It was incredibly heartwarming to witness the impact the initiative has created over five years of dedicated community engagement. The children enthusiastically shared their learnings, experiences, and growth with the team, a powerful reminder of the importance of creating safe and nurturing learning spaces within communities. The celebration brought together the children, their parents, library in charges, educational supervisors, and members of the NNEdPro India team who have coordinated and supported the programme since its inception. The celebrations were marked with cake cutting, shared snacks, joyful conversations, and reflections on the journey so far. A truly meaningful celebration of learning, community, and collective impact. PS: Consent was taken from Parents before taking pictures of the children. #LittleLiteracyLibrary #NNEdProIndia #Emooweringminds #5yearsofimpact #anniversarycelebrations #communitylearning

NNEdPro was delighted to participate in a side event during the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva, organised by EAT and PAN International. The panel discussion focused on the topic: “Shifting Gears on Healthy Diets: From Sustainable and Just Food Systems to Accelerate Impact to 2030.” The event brought together partners and stakeholders working across global health, nutrition, and sustainable food systems, with valuable discussions around collaboration and future opportunities. It was a pleasure for NNEdPro’s Associate Director for Development, Sucheta Mitra, to represent the organisation, engage with stakeholders, and explore areas of shared interest. Special thanks to EAT and PAN International - (Physicians Association for Nutrition) and Dr Nanine Wyma for the invitation and the opportunity to contribute to these discussions. We look forward to continued collaboration. #WorldHealthAssembly #GlobalNutrition   #HealthSystems  #SustainableFoodSystems

How do food habits change after migration, and what challenges shape these transitions? Our latest blog explores food consumption behaviours among Eritrean migrants in Switzerland, based on discussions from a recent IANE webinar led by Sucheta Mitra. The piece highlights the complex relationship between food, cultural identity, affordability, nutrition literacy, and adaptation within new food environments. The blog also explores broader themes around culturally sensitive nutrition support, multilingual food literacy, and the importance of preserving cultural food practices within migrant communities.
