When your smoke alarm goes off, check for fire immediately. If there’s a fire, alert everyone, follow your escape plan, and never open a hot door. Once outside, call 911 and wait for the fire department. Prevent false alarms by regularly changing batteries. @cityofnorthvan

If your barbecue has been sitting for an extended time check the inside and outside of the grill before first use. Ensure the barbecue and burners have no grease buildup or leftover food. If you smell gas while cooking, move away from the grill and call 9-1-1. @cityofnorthvan
