Nah, the reality is that New World failed because the Amazon execs made these kind of decisions.
The devs were stifled from day one, forced to prioritise making money over making a good game - it was doomed from the beginning, as soon as they told the devs they had 12 months to pivot from a sandbox pvp game to a full blown MMO.
It's disingenuous to say Amazon are dropping New World because it's failed, when 1. they are the reason it has floundered from day one, and 2. this isn't a New World issue. If this game alone was the issue, they wouldn't also have cancelled the LOTR MMO that they've been developing, nor gutted the publishing department and announced they won't be publishing any new MMOs either.
You can't shoot someone in the foot then leave them behind because they can't walk without expecting outrage. You're using New World as a scapegoat here to excuse their greed. Because that's what it is.
10 years ago, when the news first dropped that video games are now more profitable than Hollywood/TV entertainment, Amazon saw dollar signs and started AGS. The reality has now hit them that games take a lot more ongoing maintenance and funds to keep them profitable, so now they're dipping from the industry.
Saying that 'the community needs to come to terms with' this massive failing from Amazon isn't being wise or level-headed, it's just being naive. Amazon have made their bed in a room full of tens of thousands of people that they have shafted, and we have every right to make that room as noisy and unpleasant as we want to.
